I'd like to know if anyone has shared button #1 player 2 and button #1 trackball?
This would be sharing P2B1 that is connected to an I-Pac, and Trackball #1 button that is on an Optipac.
Could some adventerous soul try this out for me? Andy do you have a test-bed that you could try this out and let me know if it works?
My control panel doesn't really have a good spot any longer for Trackball button #2, so I figured that I could use Trackball button #1 as #2 and use player #2 button #1 as trackball button #1 AND player #2 button #1.
layout looks like this:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Player #2
Start Button Spinner
p2b4 p2b5 p2b6
Joy #2 3 inch
P2B1 p2b2 p2b3 TrackBall
Here
BallButton#2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So you can see that P2B1 is in the perfect spot to be trackball button #1 AND it has to be Player #2's button #1...... oh ya, the trackball buttons will also be the spinner buttons :-)
If I haven't totally confused you by now, and you follow what I'd like to do..... lemme know if you've done it
ANDY, any chance you could test this out in your shop? I don't want to short anything out on the I-pac or the Optipac now that I'm so close to finishing my Cab :-)
thanks all!

You're not going to hurt the encoders by doing this.
The problem though (I've done it before) is that when you press the button to utilize the mouse button feature of the Opti-Pac, you're also going to send whatever keypress is assigned to that button on the I-Pac. "A" is the default P2B1, I think. So every time you click the mouse, you're also sending an "A". In MAME32 if you clicked on the scroll bar, you'd send an "A" which would jump you to the games starting with "A"
So, it's feasible but just be warned that you may run into some strange things happening.

cool, I'll have to play around with it then. As long as I'm not going to hurt the controllers by trying it out.
Maybe there is a little isolation circuit I can throw in there or something....
thanks!

I hooked up my player 1 button 1 and 2 to the ipac and mouse hack using a dpdt relay and a switch to switch from one to the other.
Here's my relay wiring.

Or you could just dissconnect the 'A' from the button and configure MAME to use the mouse click as the button.

You could do that, but sometimes getting inputs from two different sources at the same times doesn;t work. I've known fighter to not beable to pull off combos because of that setup.
