Some time back I recall reading that there would be a port for the XBOX. Does anyone know anything about this. I just got an XBOX and do not see how it would be possible to load MAME on to the X. Was it just rumer or reality. I think that I had actually read it in an XBOX magazine.

Somebody who had the Xbox development kit (software and the real debug version of the xbox hardward) was able to port Mame and put up a page about it. He basically said "it could be done", but he wasn't going to release it (his code couldn't run the non-developement xbox hardware anyway).
Now with the latest Linux/Xbox developments, you could get the hack chip installed (voiding the warrenty), loading linux on it, and then just downloading/compiling mame and it should work. But outside that, there is currently no version of linux of mame which will run natively on the xbox.

There was a version of mame released for X-Box, which was made with the official (illegal to distribute programs without a license from MS). It was even briefly on mame.net, but MS ordered it pulled. The only place you might get it is IRC or usenet (I definately wouldn't ask about it on an xbox forum, as you'd be flame bait).
As far a Linux on XBox goes, unless it has progressed alot this week, it is just a command line and a few utilities. (ie no X or SVGAlib to run Mame with).

You can find it by asking people on file sharing progs.
It was released but then got wanked by MS :'(

I bet this sneaked out version or Mame still only runs on modded Xbox's. There is no other way to run unsigned code.

Yep, you have to have mod chip for it to work.

MAME-X is dead.
however, with slackware and debian on the xbox, xmame might work on it. At least there is alot of progress getting linux on the xbox. But I was thinking, actaully how practical would mame on the xbox be. Would it accept mouse control or something to that rotary games could use?

ya mighta seen the link for xmame which is the xwindows port of MAME... *shrug* it's a guess anyways...

Mame X is still alive, the problem is finding the binaries.
