Title: Building my first cab, streetfighter/X-men theme: Pix updated 11-01-04
Post by: tapnout on August 27, 2004, 01:48:28 pm
I'm building my first cab. As of now i'll be using Lusids plans for the cabinet and the UA2 control panel plans. I'll Be using a 27" toshiba tv as a monitor. I built a new computer to use strictly for MAME and MP3's.
My control panel will have 4 players, 1 track ball, 1 dedicated 4 way joystick, and 1 spinner. I'll be using an IPAC 4. I already started my CP and i'm about 50% done (still have to do the wiring). I just need to drill the lexan and put on the CPO (snaake made my CPO). If you have any questions just ask. Also the pic of my CPO doesn't show how nice it really is. I suck with camera's. The pic looks dark and no details.

Here is a pic of my cab with my marquee snaake made me. I still need to get the mounting brackets and cut out plexi to use to sandwich the marquee with.

Here is a pic of the my speaker cover on and the speaker cover that i made out of some scrap wood.

UPDATE:

Ok i finally started my cab. The design was half lusids design and half a UA2 design. I basically started with the lusid plans but i decided to cut it in half and make it a 3 piece instead of a 2 piece cab. Also made a few other little modifications to it.
So far i have made one big mistake. I should of taken more time on connecting the sides to the base of the cab. I didn't notice it at first, but when i tried to place the coin door on the cab that's when i noticed that it was uneven by about a 1/4". May seem like a small error but when trying to put the cab together it really does make a difference. So i ended up taking the whole thing apart to do it right.
Other than that everthing else went pretty smooth.

Here is a photo of the sides.

Ok here is another update, i added the speaker panel, top and back panel, bezel and front cab door. My marquee is on it's way.

Very nice overlay! It looks a bit too nice for your CP layout! I see a large amount of your overlay disappearing. For example your 4-way joystick might take most if not all of Magnito's head off. Still very nice and I hope I am wrong about how they line up. Please post a pic when you finish the CP.

I feel sorry for the rest of your cab.  Seeing how you got the CP built first. Youll be playing all the time and not finishing it.   ;D

OK here it is guys. I put almost everything together except for the spinner. I still have to order one. OH also forgot, i have to also do the wiring and attach it to the cp frame. Also just to let you know that it looks 10X's better in person.

F'n hilarious!

tapnout:  Nice, kick-ass CP.  Even with all those controls it doesn't seem cluttered or crowded in the least.  Great job!

I'm about to build my cab. I still need a marquee. Can anyone give me some ideas of what i should look like? I would like it to match my CP and the name of the cab would be CAPCADE. Thanks.

One of my MAME machines has a marquee similar to your cp overlay. It's got Bison on the left and Akuma on the right.

Is that the Ms.Pac/Galaga stick for your 4-way? How hard was that to mount in the wood? I assume you have it reccessed for for the overlay to be flat? Could you share any pointers?

Yeah it was pretty easy. All i did was take the joystick out of the 4-way housing, place it on top of my CP. I then traced the outter portion of the 4 way housing and drilled out the holes where the bolts are. So that was basically used as a template. Then i measured the 4-way housing and routed out the thickness of it. It was 1/4" i think. Then i placed the bottom of the housing in the middle of my outter housing tracing. I traced that then cut it out. Slipped the 4-way in then bolted it down.

hope you understand. If not feel free to ask.

Yeah i can't believe my wife let me built it in my living room. I have space to build it outside but i'm too lazy to take it out side everytime.
