Title: Ideas for a small CP for Lap or Desk
Post by: roybfr on August 25, 2004, 03:27:29 pm
Getting close to wrapping up my UAII cab and cp build.

I have a few spare parts and was thinking about making a small single player CP to keep at my desk to do cough! cough! testing.

What I was thinking was going with two joy sticks, either 2 omni-stik basics or 2 T-Stiks (non plus) with 6 buttons, a coin and start button, then an ecs and pause button. Then depending on what joysticks I get go with either a KeyWiz or a IPAC VE. I thought about adding a track ball but may just leave that for the cab and keep this simple.

Layout would be the sticks out to the side and the 6 buttons in the center, kind of like a spread out Robotron with buttons.

Any onpinions or ideads would be appreciated.

I think you would definitely want to include a trackball. You're going to be excluding a very large amount of great games. The Ultimarc trackball is fairly cheap and fairly small.

If I add a trackball I will take the Ultimarc out of my 4 player CP and sticking in there, then get a 3" Happs one with the translucent ball for the 4 player CP. I will have to print out some templates and lay it out and see how it looks.

If it's just for you, do you really need 2 sticks?

I'd go for one stick and a ball.

My small panel uses a logitech marble mouse for a ball. works well enough.

Just out of curiosity, why not T-Stik plus?  Or are you going to make the underside easily accessible so you can switch 4-way/8-way?
