Title: Springs
Post by: Squirrely on August 23, 2004, 03:38:44 pm
I need a few springs between 4 and 5 inches in diamiter, no shorter then 1 inch, and not really strong, about 4 or 5 pounds when pressed.  Anyone know where I might find something like this?

Come to think of it I might be able to make some out of a clothes hanger or soemthing.  But it would be nice to have pre-made springs.

I just found a bunch of springs at my local ACE Hardware. They had a ton of different sizes. Home Depot and Loews have like 4 springs. So, I would try a small hardware if you can still find one.

4-5 inches in diameter is somewhat large, especially if you are looking for something pliable enough for a dance mat.  also, anytime ive used wire to try to make a spring, it never kept its shape or tensile strength.

i believe you should do more research into how others approached this.  i believe foam/polymers is a viable option.  you could also try using multiple small springs as well..

Try an auto parts store, they will probably have bigger springs compared to a local hardware store.

Maybe try an old box spring mattress.
