I'm just starting to make an MP3 jukebox. I really like the control panel here:
http://www.cybertechdesign.net/mameroom//examples/P1010835.jpg
but i priced the buttons at Happ and they are $6 each - there are 22 square buttons so that comes to $120 for buttons!!!! I can probably cut the number of buttons down ( I want the triangle/arrow buttons), but I really would like to find an alternate source for a numeric keypad. Anyone found a suitable numeric keypad that could be used on a jukebox?
Can anyone tell me if this:

I'm pretty sure it is but want to be sure

I used one of these 12 keypads from BG Micro - its non-matrixed and cheap:
http://www.bgmicro.com/prodinfo.asp?sid=097391203703703721618031121&prodid=SWT1068&page=1&cri=SWT1068&stype=3&time_out=19:57
If that doesn't work just go to bgmicro.com and search on part: SWT1068
And fyi I've got info on everything I used on my Jukebox on a thread here. (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=17979;start=0)

If it interests you, i was able to use this keypad also from jameco:
http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=121971 (http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=121971)
It is a matrix keypad, but i was able to decode the matrix and wire up each key individually. It involved cutting some traces and soldering to each key, but its only a half-hour job or so using the info i posted here:
http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=5;action=display;threadid=14302 (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=5;action=display;threadid=14302)
Just thought i'd offer yet another alternative.

I'm using a hacked keyboard so a mtrixed one would work better for me (I think).

That's the thread I linked to with the tinyurl links above :) Thanks! And thanks for the informative post. I'll probably be picking up two of them for the two jukes I'm working on.
I just got the cabinets yesterday - if anyone wants to see the cabs as they looked when they arrived (currently) take a peek here:

I'll be posting more pics and info as the projects progress. I'll probably start a thread on it once I've done some work on them.

The triangle illuminated buttons are the only buttons that are $6.62 each. All the others are between 77 cents and 87 cents.
I just bought enough of those buttons to make THREE jukeboxes about a month ago, and my TOTAL bill with shipping and all was only $112.34.

Can ypu point me to the specific URL or part number where you see square buttons for less than $1.00? Eevery one I have seen at Happ is ~$6 each. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. I'm looking for the white/red square buttons like the ones here:

http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/pushbuttons.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/pushbuttons.htm)
The ones used on that jukebox are the miniature momentary contact pushbuttons.
Here are the part numbers:
49-0578-11
49-3037-00
49-0578-00

AHHHH!!!! I was looking at the illuminated ones! That's whyt the confusion! So...anyone know how you put the numbers on the buttons? Do they have caps you take off and put the numbers under or are people just glueing numbers to the top of them?

They are clear decals from a craft store.
-
Are the decals stuck to the top of the button or does the button have a cap which can be removed so the numbered decal can be placed inside the button top?

They are stuck to the top of the button. There is no cap on the buttons.
