I'm a Senior Risk and Safety Engineer for a consultancy firm.  Mainly do work for oil and gas companies in Australia, but have spent some time in Philippines and New Zealand on some jobs.  Currently spend most of my day in a clients office as their HSE Advisor (which means I can't get onto irc during the day).  My job revolves around doing various risk models to see what the potential for death is, going out to oil rigs for audits and inspections, writing very large documents to keep the government happy and the field producing.  Married - not looking to get a divorce at any stage, no kids, 80% complete 4-player cabinet.

Cheers

Not at all.  However, I think reposting after 26 minutes isn't quite right.  You gotta give people a few hours before bumping it back up.  But anyways... it was easy.

Now back to reading and updating the 300 page document.

So chances are, I'll be having a "career opportunity" shortly.  In other words, I'll be looking for a new job.   :P

I'm the IT Director & " Funky" BMS programmer for a fairly large HVAC contractor.
I'm married with 1 1/2 kids, (1/2 due in a couple weeks) a dog, a cat, and a cabinet longing to be completed....
I've got a week off work comming at the end of today (boss says I have too much time banked and need a break) so the cab should get completed.

I'm assuming, without reading the previous thread on this subject that most byoac'rs are either in the IT/computer field, or have a background in it?

I'm the senior technology programmer for a small game studio.  Got 1 wife and 3 cats.  I've talked the rest of the team at work into building an arcade cabinet, but like most game studios, we're usually in some kind of crunch, so it's hard to find the time.  Just got our first order of parts delivered today, so at least things are starting to happen.

IT Director at a large outsourcing company, on account at a Wall Street Investment Bank.

Before that I used to be an order clerk for a small brokerage firm at the New York Stock Exchange.  If I had stayed there I would probably have been killed on 9/11.  :o All of the partners and brokers at my company (~8 of them) were killed at thier weekly meeting at Windows on the World.   I was on the career path to be one of them before I decided to go techie.

I was a welder for eight years. Since then I have been a commercial/industrial/residential overhead door installer during the week and on weekends an electronics troubleshooter for "The Chamberlain Group" (makers of electric door and gate operators) I quit the troubleshooting weekend job and have now gone back to welding on the weekends. Married in Jan. No kids yet. One cat. My wife is a nurse and a diabetic educator. Sorry for rambling... just like to share. :)

I'm an IT guy for six Health Departments offices spanning five counties.  They're rural, so in all I've got only about 80 workstations and a couple of file-servers.  I'm also going to school with a major in (this should come as a surprise  ;) ) political science (double-major, actually, with one in Information Systems).  I'll be going directly to law school when I finish under-grad.  I've got an extraordinarily hot wife and two cats and have never had a lap dance (or, rather, never paid for a professional one).  After law school I intend to enslave mankind and rule the world with an iron fist.  This liberal thing is just a ruse.

I've been building my cab, which was overly ambitious for someone with no woodworking experience, on weekends (when I don't have any homework) over the last year.  It's finally getting pretty close to completion, but school's starting again in a week, so we'll see.

Actuary.

Hey, my brother's an actuary!

I'm a trial lawyer in rural Missouri.  Pretty much help people going through a tough time in their life, been in an accident, hurt on the job, fired from their job, gov't wants to put 'em in jail.  Can be very frustrating at times, but also very satisfying.  Help my father farm when I can get home on the weekends, which isn't much anymore.  One wife, first kid due Oct 14, one cat, three dogs, one fish.

I got my CNE this spring and got my first IT job about 2 months ago.  I'm an engineer on 3rd shift, which means I load a lot of backup tapes and reboot servers.  I'm realizing that the real world is REALLY different than the classroom environment.

In the past I was a Journyman Ironworker (I still work in my friend's shop on weekends), owned my own concrete business, and worked for my dad in his house building business.

I also spent 4 years in the U.S. Air Force doing maintenance on nuclear missiles.

I'm a casting and tool designer for aluminum die castings. I take care of the creation of tooling to make lots of transmissions and other parts made of aluminum.  I design all the tooling and manage the programs when they are in place.

Before that I used to kill small animals with spears.  It didn't pay that much, but it was fullfilling.

Before that I used to look for and pick up change in parking lots for a guy. I got half.  That didn't pay much either.
