I'm trying to figure out how to change the "Mame32" in the mame32 title bar to either nothing or to "Tequila" which is the name of my arcade machine.
I've tried looking everywhere for a solution but haven't yet found one. If anyone could help me I would very much appreciate it!! :)
Just lookin' for a solution on how to change or rename the MAME32 text in the titlebar to either nothing or something else.
Thanks,
Mark

There might be some hex editing software you can use to hack the .exe....
But honestly in my opinion, if you were computer savy enough to do that, I don't think that you would be using Mame32 in the first place....
I'd recommend for your arcade cabinet that you look at getting rid of Mame32 and use a real arcade cabinet frontend along with the command line version of Mame. You will be much happier with the results.
-
I'm using a tv screen to play the games in my cabinet so I have to have the text really big since it's quite blurry. I think I'm stuck using Mame32 on my arcade machine. :(

Well you can make mame32 full screen. Then you would not even see the title bar (I dont think anyways). I don't know if this is what you want or not. I don't remember where the option is or the shortcut(I'm at work now and can't look it up). Anyways, I hope that helps a little.

No you actually have many frontend options. I have a TV and I use MAMEWAH (http://mamewah.mameworld.net/ (http://mamewah.mameworld.net/)). In the layout editor, you can increase the font size to whatever it needs to be. I think I have my game list font set at 28 pt. A front end like MAMEWAH would be much better than Mame32 in a cab.
-
I use a 24" TV and I use Game Launcher. I think you need to understand that all the good Frontends are gonna give you flexibility to increase your font size as big as you need it. In the end, trust us, you are not stuck with Mame32 :)

Yeah, now offesne, but that's the dumbest/newbiest (they both mean the same thing, so take your pick ;) ) thing I've ever heard. Most fe's were designed BECAUSE mame32 looks so bad on a tv or arcade monitor. The only reason to use mame32 on an arcade cabinet is that your too computer illiterate to work a decent front end.
It may sound mean, but it's the truth. People who use mame32 on their arcade cabients make me cringe, especially if it's a nice cabinet. It's kind of like buying a brand new ferrari and putting 10 dollar "festive leopard print" seat covers over the $2000 leather seats. Not only does it look bad for you personally, but it shames all ferrari owners around the world. ;)
-
now offesne, but that's the dumbest/newbiest.
simple: ---fudgesicle--- you. we all have our own solutions and test out what works what doesnt. have you seen my arcade machine? no. so how do you know what would look best on MY machine.
-
correction....the "you" should say "f--- you" but it doesnt work on this forum.
-
oh and no offense.
never heard of insulting someone and then telling them no offense. you would have had a nice shot to the face if you said that to me in real life. sry for overreacting though. i take back my 'f--- you'. haha
-
Ya know, if you want to use mame 32 in your cab, then go ahead. If you want to take the couple hours and try out a couple of front ends with the command version of mame then I do think that you will end up being happier with the result.
Really doesn't matter to me either way but look at it this way, useing mame 32 is kinda like the guy who puts 50" spinner rims on his car with the stock breaks and a coffee can tail pipe. Looks neat to the lay folk but those in the know know.
-
oh i do understand and i have tried a few mame frontends but mame32 still works the best for my setup. it's a sweet cab i just finished the custom control panel too ill have to post some pics.
but honestly i dont know one person in real life that knows what mame even is. the only person that cares how the title selection looks is the owner of the arcade machine.
my windows colors and window tweaks are setup that it doesnt even look closely to windows at all. the only thing is it still says "mame32" on top. :( just for my own sake id want it off.
-
skylap, do you really want your arcade cabinet to look like it is running Windows? Doesn't that seem kinda cheesy looking? What other FE's have you tried?
-

If you're having problems seting up the FE's, I doubt you can edit the source to change the title bar and compile. If you want to prove me wrong, use google: naming the title bar is one of windows' "basics", and howto is on hundreds, of not thousands, of web pages.
And don't take HC too personally; he's like that to everyone who has an opinion different than his. Of course, HC is usually correct.

If you're saying that you tried some FE's and MAME32 still looks the best, you are doing something wrong. Forgive me, but anything looks better than MAME32 and I think you'd be better off getting a FE working correctly. I run mame on my bedroom TV using my computer, and I use MAMEwah and it looks fine. A little tweaking was needed but that was that.
-
I have to agree with everyone else - MAME32 does look like crap on a cabinet, it's simply not meant for it.
Of course it doesn't matter to us if you are sure you want to use MAME32, we have been there and done it, and are really only giving advice to try to improve your cab :)

To correct your statement - he's not doing something wrong, something is wrong with him. There is no way that MAME32 could ever, ever, ever, EVER look good on a cab unless the cab itself looked like crap. Actually, no, it would still look bad.
The point of frontends are to make it look good, a lot of the time on TVs! So truth be told, someone should knock some sense into you (hammer, boulder, whatever is necessary).

no honestly you wouldn't recognize this as mame32 at all. is it so hard to understand that you can customize your own programs? :|

Could you post a screenshot? I haven't used MAME32 for years so I'd like to see what you can do with it nowadays...
-
I'd like to see what you've done to it also. If its just changing the appearances from within windows, its not a big change. I'd like to see what you did to it.
-
Sure ill grab my buddy's digicam this week :) youll see its actually pretty sweet :):D
-
If you can also do a Print Screen and save it to a JPG in paint, etc.. it would be nice to see both.

Hehe.... watch everyone start migrated to Mame32 after this... :)
-
You can use autoit to change the title of the window. It wouldn't be permanent but you could have a script run when executing Mame32.

I'm not so sure about that... even if its masked pretty well... its still MAME32 ;)

Dying to see how MAME32 looks on this guys cab. Any word on pictures?

I think this post says it all. Really, I think what we're all interested in seeing is Mame32 configured to look like anything but crap. I think what he's trying to do is use a digi to take the screenshot. :) No offense man, but I think even the JunkCade or Garbage cade or whatever uses a FE. i may be wrong...
Use the Prt Scr button and post into paint or whatever and put it up for all to see.
Which FE's did you try out? Did you try MameWah or 3darcade? Those are quite different but both look astounding in my opinion.
-
As with the rest of them, use PrtScrn.
As for changing the titlebar, just recompile and have it say whatever you want.
-
What I'm curious about is how someone who can't figure out how to change the title bar was able to customize 32 to look good on a cabinet. Changing that backdrop and font makes such a big difference? ;)

The only thing that I can figure that most FE's lack that mame32 has is the ability to quickly scroll through the 5000 roms via the trackball... but other than that I say yes most FE's 'look' better than mame32 on a cabinet.

Yes, but Mame32 will only have that advantage for another week or so until Minwah's new update of Mamewah :)

Ultrastyle already has TB support, so it is safe to say that MAME32 has nothing over front ends.

umm, I don't know what this means?

TB support = trackball support
I was trying to give your FE props for supporting this feature.

Doh, I thought TB was title bar like in the subject. You had me scratching my head for like 10 minutes. I wasn't sure if I was drunk or you were..
