Title: Vector Games on Component TV?
Post by: maxstang on August 17, 2004, 01:46:19 pm
Thinking of going the Component TV route, but I really like the old vector games.  Can someone post a pic of them running on a component TV.  -Thanks

They're not going to be that good.  If you can get interlacing to work (640x480), they'll be barely acceptable IMHO, and if you can't get interlacing to work, (320x240) they'll be horrendous.

Here's a pic of Tempest running at about 340x288 on an arcade monitor through a PC Video card:

If you get an HDTV with 720p or 1080i true resolution, they might be better.

I run vector games at 768x576i and I think they look ok. The phosphor on an arcade monitor is slow enough to give you the trails of moving objects and with a beamsize of ~1.6 the flicker isn't disturbing. To bad the "glow" from dots can't be replicated very well.
