Title: Almost done with cabinet - have some questions about the software
Post by: Jedi Master Matt on August 17, 2004, 11:05:22 am
Greetings all,

I'm just about done with my first cabinet (pictures coming soon because I'm too close to being done to stop).   I'm now at the fun stage where I'm trying to get everything working the right way with the software and need some help on a couple of issues.

I've got MAME running just fine in Mamewah and Emulaxian, still trying to decide which one I'll stick with.   Those 3D cabs are so pretty.

I'm having difficulty with the console emulators though; so, I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions.

1) Having difficulties with Z26 for the 2600.   I can't get it running and keep getting an error (sorry, I don't have the error message with me at work) - something about a missing file.   My question is that I seem to recall something about the files for the 2600 having to be set differently.  Are they ZIP files or do you need to unzip them for this emu?

2) I'm also using GensFE and I'm having two issues -

a) I can run the emu just fine as long is it isn't launched by the FE; but, as soon as I try to launch it inside the FE - all I get is a "blank" screen with sound.   I can duplicate this error when I'm outside the FE by trying to switch the resolution settings back and forth.   I don't think it's a sync issue because I can run it at full screen outside the FE just fine.  It seems to happen only when I switch the settings.

b) The second issue is more frustrating.   I can seem to get GensFE to ignor button presses that correspond to left and right mouse buttons.   I've got my control panel wired up so that buttons 1 and 2 (not keyboard 1 &2 but MAME) are the mouse buttons.   Whenever I try to map these two in GensFE, they try to do both the game functions and the mouse clicks which lock up the game.    I don't have this issue in the other console emus.

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get the rest of the emus up and running (N64, PC Engine, GB, etc.).   Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

1) Have you tried the modified Z26 from www.screenshotarchive.com?  (I am not sure the answer...)

2a) Set Show DOS Box to Yes

2b) Not sure again.  But personally I wouldn't use mouse buttons for your main buttons - many emulators will have a problem with that, with MAME we are just spoiled...

Thanks Minwah for the response.

I came home today and solved the Z26 problem.   The files I had were .a26 instead of .bin files.   I converted the extension over and everything worked just fine.

The GensFE issue concerns me though.   I double checked my wiring and saw that I didn't even connect up the mouse buttons to ALL of my button 1 (Lt Ctrl) and button 2 (Lt Alt).   I only wired it up to the 4 buttons directly above my trackball.   I guess it is picking up the complete circuit from those buttons.

If anyone knows of a way to disable mouse buttons in GensFE I would greatly appreciate knowing how.   It seems to be the only emu that I'm having this problem with.   I'd even be willing to alter the config files if I have too.

Also, I just noticed on the ScreenshotArchive site that there doesn't seem to be a FE capable emu for the TG-16, Colecovision, Intellevision, etc.   Is this true?
