I had decided on the Super joystick so that I can have 4-way play also. Www.oscarcontrols.com says that the competition is the best and the super 4-way is really not legit. Can anyone else tell me how the 4-way play is on their Super joysticks?

Hey Ryan,
In order to answer you with some degree of accuracy of opinion could you clarify something?
Are you looking to switch between 4 way and 8 way often? Or are you just looking for a good 4 way only stick...
IMHO if your intention is to switch between 4 and 8 way on Supers, it's my understandind that it's cumbersome to switch around the activator bulb thingie to swithc between 8/4 way mode...
With that said, if you were using supers you could use oscar restrictor plates to switch (Again if thtat's your intention)
Have you looked at ultimarc's t-stick, and j-sticks, etc?
OF course if you just want 4 way action maybe a dedicated 4 way would be best....

I think that Rampy is right; if you want to switch between a 4-Way and 8-Way, use an Oscar restrictor plate.
In addition, if you want to use a Super as a dedicated 4-Way joystick, do not try to do it by flipping the hourglass actuator. This used to work, but the newer Supers will still register diagonals in "4-Way" mode (it just makes the 8-Way joystick less sensitive to the diagonals).
For a true Super 4-Way, I made a custom joystick by combining a Super 8-Way with a Super 4-Way Tulip Joystick - see: http://pccab.net/4way.htm (http://pccab.net/4way.htm)

This sucks!! I totally had this figured out that I was going with Super joysticks. But I want to make sure I can change between 4 way joysticks and 8 way joysticks at will. How difficult is it to change the Oscar mounting plates?

I plan to use OSCAR's plates without the mounting plate. If you use this method and the pin (not screw) connectors, you should be able to install and remove the plates in under 2 seconds. They will just drop into place.
