I have 2 of these mice...and it looks like the inards are similar to an Omega Race controller. The normal light chopper in between an emitter and detector does not appear...unless encased...

It would seem pretty easy to adapt to a spinner...just make a hard-drive based spinner and use some rubber tubing to connect the spinner shaft to the shaft of the mouse axis.
Has anyone used a mouse like this?

Someone has, but I forget the URL for it. They made great spinners from I remember.

Instead of light choppers, it seems to have something like pots, but without limiting the spin. I remember the old Atari 2600 driving paddles had something like this, pot that can spin and spin with no angle limitation... Hey, there's another idea! ;D

If you like I can shoot a digi-pic of the way I have mine setup. Kind of a quickie hack job but it works.
Sorry, don't have a web page up on it yet.
