Title: Upholstered control panel?
Post by: Martoon on August 14, 2004, 04:46:03 pm
Has anyone out there done a control panel with upholstery?  I'm thinking some kind of material like denim or leatherette, with just a small amount of upholstery padding underneath.  Not so much padding that it would get in the way of button access, but just enough so it's slightly padded and swells up over the open areas (maybe a quarter to half inch), and is smashed flat under the flange around buttons, etc., to look slightly like upholstery buttons.  I've seen CP's with a leatherette overlay right on the MDF, but I've never seen one with actual upholstery padding.  If anyone has done this, I'd be interested to know how they went about it, and how they handled joystick and trackball openings, etc.  For example, you probably wouldn't want a dust washer scraping around on top of the fabric.

Any thoughts or feedback welcome.

i would also like to see that as well...a black padded vinyl/leatherette CP

it might work best on a cocktail cab midway or taito style.

might have problems around the buttons though.

im just going for covering my mdf CP with Happs sticky vinyl (cheaper alternative to a metal CP)

I would make sure the fabric was easy to clean and wouldn't stain.
