Title: MAME Analog Plus help?
Post by: DougHillman on August 13, 2004, 04:00:40 pm
Is there a doc file or something for MAME Analog Plus?  I'm having no luck actually getting it to recognize the second trackball.  Can't find anything of use on the http://www.urebelscum.speedhost.com/index.html site.

Sorry, I don't have good documentation.

Before I can help up, could you tell me what OS (98, ME, 2K, XP) and what settings you used?

Windows 98.  I turned on the multiplemice switch in the mame32.ini file.  Have 2 Ultimarc balls hooked up through a USB Opti-Pac.

what else am I supposed to do?   Normally I can muddle through this kinda stuff, but I'm baffled here.

Thanks,  Doug

Make sure the mouse is enabled.  Also go to enable switchablemice.

Then start analog+ and remap the triggers and see what they are being called.  It should be something like "mouse 0 button 1 mouse 4 button 1".  If you're only getting "mouse 1 button 1", then for some reason analog+ isn't seeing the mice seperately.
If you do get the two buttons, go to "mouse controls" menu item (added with the switchablemice option) and assign the players to the same non zero mouse number shown when reassigning the triggers.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not getting this.  (And, by the looks of the many similar questions I've come across when looking for an answer, I'm not alone.  Hopefully getting this working will help others who are as clueless as I am. :)  )

Where is the "Mouse controls" menu item supposed to show up?  In the MAME32 Analog+ "Options" dropdown menu?  In the "TAB" menu brought up when a game has been selected and is running?

I've got Multiplemice 1 &  Switchablemice 1 set in the Mame32.ini file.  I see no "Mouse controls" menu anywhere.

Sounds good.  If you also have mouse set to 1, and have at least one mouse, it should be showing up.  ???

It should be in the in-game tab menu, just delow the "analog settings".

If that's not working, you could try hand editing the cfg/*.ana files.  If you pass the test in next paragraph and want to give it a try, let me know.  It's a little work to explain.  :)

(You've tested remapping the mouse buttons and get the "mouse 0 button 1 mouse 2 button 1", yes?  If you don't get anything, then the mice aren't being detected, which is a different problem.)

Nope, still not there.  All settings in mame32.ini are as you say they should be.  Mouse 1, multiplemice 1, switchablemice 1.  No "Mouse Settings" in the "tab" in-game menu.

When I remap controls in the "tab" menu, the mouse buttons are mappable.  Shows up as "Mouse button 0" and "Mouse button 1" though, not "Mouse 0 button 0" and so on.

I'm gonna do a complete uninstall and start over.  See what happens with that.

Dang.  I tested this at work, and looks like the options aren't being past to the core. :(

Gotta run, though, so can't test at home.

Okay, finally really tested this.  The settings are not being past to the game, if set in the ini files, but do work if you start the game from the commandline with the options set in the commandline.  So it a coding error.  :(

I've checked the code and I don't see what's wrong.  Mame32 must have made some changes in passing the options code that I missed.

I'll try to fix this when I get 0.86 mameAnalog+ out.

Sorry. :(

Maybe this is the problem that I'm having.  I have two Act-Labs TV guns and using Analog+ .74 on WinXP, I can't get it to recognize the two guns.  I have all the right options set in the .ini file, as specified in several posts here, but I never get the "Mouse Options" menu, and the two guns don't work properly.  BTW, I use the EmuLoader FE.  I can use the two guns perfectly playing House of the Dead 1/2 along with that trouble shooter utility, so I know it's not the guns.  I guess I need to try it from the command line?
