Title: Glass door lock?
Post by: crashwg on August 11, 2004, 02:25:35 pm
I can't take it anymore, my child is getting into everything!

I have an entertainment center that has two glass door on it and I need to lock them shut.  They are of the type that has two pins on the hinge side of the door (pins are the hinge) and a metal plate on the top corner oposite the hinge and the door is held shut buy one of those magnets that you can push in and it clicks...  I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

So what do I need to keep her out?  Do they make locks specifically for this type of installation?

I have the same problem... My daughter (3 yo) kicks the glass until it opens.... Pretty funny to see.

Do they make a larger version of these?

Kid-size hamster ball, that should work...

Anything that doesn't require a key?  I'm looking for something child proof, not "damn I lost the key now it's everybody proof".

Depends on how clever your child is.  A simple latch night work for a while (hook and eye setup), until she gets the dexterity to open the latch.  Shoot, even a piece of wood that you have to lift out of the way before the doors will open might work.  Of course, as she grows, you have to keep upgrading the lock to something she can't handle yet, until she's old enough to be taught.

Could be worse, you could have a boy and you'd have to worry about keeping things locked up (Particularly guns and liquor) until he's out of the house.  Then you get into pick-resistant locks, and all of that fun.

I used duct tape on mine.  it was ugly, but effective, and I could open it whenever I wanted.

But that was only good until like 2 years old, after that, constant yelling and flailing my arms kept them out of my stuff  ;D
