Hi! I have a fairly new I-Pac-2 (bought in the past 3-4 months) with jumpers for mame/alt, and usb/PS2 connected by PS/2.
Everything works great, except I can not program it. I shut down, switched the jumper to Alt. Booted up, and went into the I-pac programming utility (Both the new, old, and interactive programming/test mode) and every time I try to program the I-pac, it says not found.
When going into the interactive programming/self-test mode it says:
Cannot program - mame jumper is on
i-pac test v2.1
pressed or shorted switches shown below...
And that's it. Any ideas?

This was a while ago on my first ipac: I got programming errors like that on occasion in Windows 2000. Seemed like it wouldn't happen if I would just hit a few buttons in Notepad or something first. Its like it wasn't truly recognized before I did this. It seemed to help me but it could have just been coincidence. Contact Andy if you can't get it straightened out.

I'm having the same problem with my I-PAC. Please let me know if you get this straightened out.

What I ended up doing was actually taking off the jumper but I will tell you exactly how everything came together.
Got Ipac-2 with Cable for USB in mail
Did Happy Dance: not sure if this will help but I did it anyway.
Plugged it into computer after wiring CP and new hardware was found.
It self installed itself and I used the disc to mess around.
There where no Jumpers on the board so that might be because of the USB. But if it keeps doing what yoursaying maybe grab that USB cord? I am using XP by the way and Mamewah. Mamewah and Mame will allow you to program your buttons as well ofcourse with out having to utilize Hard encoding onto the Ipac. But I am not sure exactly what you need the Ipac to do.

Are you sure you have it on ALT? Have you tried moving it to the other spot just in case? Have you emailed Andy?

Sounds like you have one of the newer ones Soulcon.
When I go in notepad, or the ipac utility with the jumper on Alt. and try to move the stick it:
A. - in notepad - does nothing, no buttons registers anything.
B. - in Ipac Utility - 95% of the buttons light up whenever I press almot any direction/button
C. - in Hard program mode through notepad - says cannot program, in mame mode.

If you send an E-mail out to Andy you will most likely get a response by the end of the day. He is extremely personable and a great help in anything you ask. I would suggest the above posters idea of trying different jumpers. Oh and did you try the Happy Dance? "you never know" ;)

I did the happy dance when I received it, but that was 2-3 months ago, so it may have lost its effect.
I sent out the exact message above to andy the same time I posted here, figure whoever fixes it wins.... uh.... wins a thank you.... What a prize huh?

Happy Dances are the basic cure for anything so I guess you re-happy your happy dance to clear your mind. As well as make your Ipac feel loved ;).
Have you tried using the different jumpers?

I'm gonna try removing the jumper later probably if I don't get an answer by then, just don't want to make the I-pac NOT work with mame settings.
