Title: Looking for a good cocktail cabinet walkthrough/dimensions
Post by: Sylentwulf on August 06, 2004, 08:02:46 pm
This is a LONG LONG ways off since I haven't even finished my upright yet. But the wife actually says she would WANT a cocktail cab, so it will happen eventually.

Problem is, Building an upright for me has been very easy (relatively) As for building a cocktail, I wouldn't even have the slightest CLUE as to where to start, a MILLION questions and NO idea's pop into my head.

Just dimensions would be the greatest thing, pictures would be very helpful too though :)

if you are willing to spend a few hundred bucks, why not consider buying a kit?  it would look good, take A LOT less time to build and take a whole lottta guesswork out of the equation.
this site has really nice looking ms pacman type cocktail kits for a really good price:

The ever popular "Midway cocktail" costs a fortune to build. You might be better off copying an Atari Football or the Cinematronics cocktail. Those have bigger control panels and would be much cheaper to scratchbuild.

Here is a little advice from someone who has made a cocktail. The kits from arcadedepot.com are a pretty good deal if that is what you are intending to build anyhow. If you have the tools and the time and enjoy the process of building something from scratch, then it might be worth designing the whole thing yourself. IF you want to build something with different dimensions than the kits, well then you need to ask yourself if what is more important, custom or quick and easy.

When I built my cocktail I ended up designing it off of kyles plans, looking at pictures from someone who made a kit from arcade depot, and a few additional modifications I made myself.  I do like woodworking and do other projects besides the cab, so I enjoyed the from scratch route.

Perfect, this is exactly what I did with my upright. Had some plans to go on, modified them to fit me, and built everything myself.

The kits look great, but I have all the tools and know-how and I'd just feel guilty if I didn't use them all (especially the slot cutting bit)

Thanx guys!
