Title: Emu Buttons and finding ESC for IPAC 2? And other questions!
Post by: Soulcon on August 06, 2004, 11:15:34 am
I read a little about Mamewah being able to utilize multiple emulators. However switching from one emu to another is a bit vaque (to me). Will I need a seprate button per emulator or two buttons that will switch between them ? How would I go about switching emus normally? My goal is to have NES, Atari, and a few 2 button Mame games. Could someone inform me of how to switch between these three. Or atleast inform me how Mamewah goes about switching between different emulators? I have been so confused and I didn't want to Have 50 bajillion buttons all over my CP. Please help. Thanks!

You have 2 main choices on how to switch emulators:

1) Use Previous and/or Next Emulator buttons to cycle through.  Personally I only use a 'Next Emulator' button.

2) Use the Options Menu to select an emulator from the list.  This is handy if you really don't have any spare buttons :)

Cool, please don't add any buttons on my (or MW's) account...you should be able to get by with 1 stick & 2 start buttons, any extra buttons are a bonus :)

Ah with only 1 start button you will need one other button, presumably you have a fire button or 2 which could be used tho?

How can I make it so Button 3 is my exit key in Z26 and VirtuaNES?

Either that or how can I set Button 3 on the Ipac 2 to be ESC?

Only thing holding me back Mame is easy to configure that stuff to work but the other two are basically hard incoded to use esc.

Things I have tried!

1. Going into each emulator M.A.M.E, VirtuaNES, Z26 and tryed making the exit button corespond with my Button 3 on the Ipac.

Result: M.A.M.E worked like the trooper it is and said "go forth young man and assign as you so choose". VirtuaNES, Said "Nope I don't like you at all so shoo you nasty human". Z26 Didn't even say anything it just sat there like a lump on a log.

2. Tried using the IPAC Software but basically all I could figure out was how to make a pretty diagram of my control panel. Couldn't figure out how to force buttons to keys and such.

3. Searched for ways of doing this and came up with nothing PLEASE HELP  :( :(

Ideas: Do I need to change the wireing from button 3 to like something like button 6 on the Ipac?

Also How do I have it so Mamewah is my startup program? If there is a site or faq to this I would be greatly appreciative.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~3~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How bad is it for an XP machine to be turned on and off via  a power strip? Will it eventually start loosing information? or blow circuitry?
Gosh I feel like a newb ;)
1) Use the IPAC's shift function, so you don't need an escape key.  By default P1 Start is shift, and P1 Start + P2 Start = Escape.
2) Easiest way is just put in your Startup folder...there are also ways of making it your Windows shell - search this board ('mamewah shell' or similar), there are a lot of topics about it.
3) Don't do that.  It won't blow circuitry but it will mess up your Windows swap file.  Use MAMEWAH to shut your machine down cleanly.
Minwah to the rescue again Thanks bud I appreciate it. However I already have a button setup for exit on my panel. Would it work if I just run a positive wire to both Player 1 and player 2 and connect it to my Exit button?
And is it discussed in the mamewah Faq on how to turn off your system?
I got lost somewhere on what you want to do - Button 3 is supposed to be Escape right? (dedicated Exit button, not combined Button 3 for MAME and Escape for ZSNES, right?)
Just re-program your I-PAC so Button 3 generates Escape.  I don't have so software running, but see this page - http://www.ultimarc.com/winipac_ipd.html
You want to click "Go to Set KEYCODES Mode" and then in the table change P1SW3 to Esc and click Program.
