Title: Securing CP to Cabinet
Post by: Wiliamo on August 05, 2004, 09:31:15 pm
What methods are recommended for attaching the control panel to the arcade cabinet?  It will not be removable.  Thanks, Wiliamo

If you will not be removing it I would suggest same method you used to build the rest of the cabinet. Probably screws and glue  ;D

You can use Control Panel Latches (http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?action=link&sku=CPLTCH). Things like that are generaly used in the original cabs too. The CP might not be removeable, but it should remain serviceable. The idea is that you reach through the coin door to open and close the latches.

I'll be fixing some good strong brackets to the insides of the cab control panel shelf, then I'll use bolts through the bottom of the control panel and fix nyloc nuts and penny washers so the bolt heads don't dig into the MDF....  May change my mind yet though.  If you've ever seen the Ultimate Arcade II plans then you'll know what I mean, if not here's a very rough sketch:

hopefully this should work, will save me buying extra hardware.

Will regular L-brackets work OK on the inside?  I was thinking about using 4 simple 2 1/2" l-brackets on the inside.  I'l probably use small screws (1/2") so that it doesn't go all the way through the MDF.

Think this will hold it ok?

I also figured that something simple like this will allow me to remove the screws someday if I ever want to remove the whole control panel box.

I mounted a 2x6 under the control panel mounted to the cabinet by L-brackets and another one behind where the control panel goes.

My control panel is then just screwed to the 2x6' s with 9 screws. Remember is your control panel is bigger than your cab you might need to remove it if you ever move house.
