Title: what would cause ingame blips and jumps
Post by: bigdog10 on August 04, 2004, 03:26:22 pm
Kinda new to MAME, I have all truned off in task bar(antivrius, mobo monitors,etc.).  I am experiencing random jumps in game that warps me ahead a few seconds.  What could be causing this?  I am runnin mame32

More information would be helpfull:

What version of MAME?

What game?

What are your computer specs?

How often does this occur?

Also:

What OS?

What kind of game controls?

What does F11 show the framerate to be when you are playing?

How far does it jump (a few seconds is like 180 frames)?

It jumps forward?  (In other words skips ahead . . .  or does it slow down at times)?

I am running windows XP home with 2600 AMD and 5200 Gforce with 256 megs.  I am not sure of version of mame32.

Yes it jumps forward about 1-2 second every 45-60 seconds in games like PAC-man, Ms. PAc MAn, robotron.

I have Micro swtiched controlls with 6 pushbuttons for a 2 player setup through an Ipac2.

I think you might need to set the throttling setting to on.  seems to me if it's off that sort of thing you describe happens with faster computers...

On the games he's describing if the throttle was off it would be faster than the eye can see, on those specs.

triple check you're computer is not running any spyware on it.  Download Ad-Aware and Pest Patrol to do a thorough sweep of your system.  I've seen 3 spyware programs and 2 IE takeover spywares lock up a guys computer so bad it couldn't go on the internet anymore.  I've personally had a spyware that would make my Winamp skip when I would type fast *key logger, Eeeek*  so I'd be listening to music doing a report, and i'd start typing 100 words per minute and the music would skip all over the place.

Just one more reason to use FireFox!

The best setup against spyware and virus, mine :)  I prefer mozilla over firefox.  I have too many problems with firefox for me.

Anyway, I use Eudora for email, Mozilla 1.7 for web browsing.  Installed google toolbar in IE.  Have AVG, Spybot S&D, and Ad-aware.

I haven't had a spyware or virus since I have had this setup :)

I also think Mozilla is far better than IE for web browsing.  It adhere's to the CSs and xHTML standards better than IE.  Tabbed browsing is the only way to go.  I can't stand IE now that it doesn't have tabbed browsing.
