Title: G07-CB0 Monitor is pulsing
Post by: fredster on August 04, 2004, 12:26:33 pm
I have a G07 that is "pulsing".  The screen goes bright then black in about a 10 second interval cycle.

This chassis has some other damage to it, like the neckboard was cracked and I fixed that (I think), and it looks like the horizontal width coil is loose or damaged.

What could make it go from the brightness setting to black and back again on it's own?  Does a flyback fail like that?

I've never seen one do this.  It's like it's losing the AC circuit or it's not being driven correctly.

I had one that was doing that because of a bad socket on the neck board.

I had one that had a bad "screen" voltage winding inside the flyback that caused fluctuating brightness. Replacing the flyback cured it. Check the soldering of the CRT socket on the neckboard also.

Ok, stupid question,

Can a flyback be rebuilt or fixed?  I think they are only $21 but is it possible to refirb one?

No, generally flybacks cannot be fixed or repaired. Throw the old defective ones away.

Yep, you guys were on it.  The neck board was cracked, and one of the sockets had a trace busted.

Soldered a wire to reconnect the trace and she's back online!

Thanks fellas!
