not really arcade controls, but someone here will have an opinion. I'm about to upgrade my home computer and thinking about a 18 or 19" flat lcd to replace my 17" crt. Have one at work and love it. Now, I seem to remember a when lcd's first came out, they were not good for games, fast moving graphics (I mainly play fps shooters and flight sims).
How is the current technology?
I want to play Far Cry, Doom 3, LOMAC, Halflife 2, and if it ever comes out Duke Nukem Forever
Duke Rules!

Their still not as good for games as a good crt... but they are MUCH better then they used to be.
Are you lacking desk space or just love lcds?
One of my biggest problem is they look like backside running at lower resolutions. And you aren't going to be running doom3 at more then 1024x768 (really... you can't)... and 640x480 might really be it.
Anyway... I think LCD's are GREAT for work machines... But still GOODISH for gamers...
Oh... and if you have 6k... there is a 3d LCD that I hear is pretty !@# amazing... but it's 6k... and I would rather have a car.... and wear shutter glasses..

i disagree
ii thought the same thing (it won't be as good, ect)
once i got my 19'' flat panel, i wish i had brought one earlier
1024x768 UT2k4 with most attributes, colors max out, i'm cruiseing at least 150 fps
if you get the best flat panel montiors, you can run better reslotions but i find 1024 just fine
Picture, sharpness and quality i think is improved.. it also adds that a have a radeon 9000 or 8500 (i forget) but i would go for it. depending on where you get it from, you can return it w/o plenty of restocking fees

I agree with Lilwolf.
LCD's are a lot better than they used to be, but they still aren't as good as a good CRT for games or design work.
The main problem I find with LCD screens is that you are pretty restricted in the resolutions you can run - but for office work, web surfing and general PC stuff you just can't beat them.

I guess I should add one thing.
I compare $ to $. I think some of the high end LCDs are AMAZING and probably as good at the high end CRTs.
BUT... high end CRTs are 1/5 the price as a high end LCD.
a $500 LCD is not as good as a $500 CRT. The LCD will be OK -> good... the CRT will be amazing.
Sure, if you have 6000 for a LCD it will be amazing... heck I want one of those 3d LCDs that would be !@# amazing (think shutter glasses 3d without the glasses... really cool)
So if money is even basically in issue, CRT...

thanks for the input. I love my lcd at work, but do have room at home for a crt, and don't want to compromise gameplay or visual look.
I'll probably stick with a big crt this time
