Title: DOS frontend for PC monitors

Hi,

I'm looking for something like ArcadeOS/etc but is geared to using PC monitors.

Ideally it would handle MAME and other Emu's from DOS...

I'm running a 366@550 and need all the cycles I can get by avoiding windows...

Thank you for your suggestions... in the meantime I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioined way (download em all and try em 1 by 1 =P )

Gamelauncher and Advancemenu come to mind quickly.  I'm sure Gamelauncher can launch multiple emulators, I'm not so sure about advancemenu.

Game Launcher was originally designed to launch multiple emulators under DOS, so I think that it would fit your bill quite nicely.  Given your limitied horse power, you'll probably want to turn off a lot of the animation scrolling effects.  That is, unless you can find accellerated (VBE/AF) drivers for your video card.

I've loaded up Gamelauncher on my cabinet and initial experience was good.  I do have a follow up question if you'd entertain it though...

Is it possible to change the configuration of the "ui" keymapping in gamelauncher, specifically to use the input from MS gameport sidewinders?  

IF that's a RTFM thing, let me know and I'll revist the docs in the event I overlooked that  info=P

Well, GL is supposed to allow you to navigate using a joystick out of the box.  That said, I don't regularly test this (since I don't have a joystick) and I haven't tested it personally under Windows.  It *should* work though. :)

One thing to do is check glaunch.log and make sure a joystick is getting detected.

BTW, the next version will allow you to fully configure joystick input to control the UI.

I use GameLauncher with two different versions of MAME, STELLA, and some non-emulated software.

Dave:  One suggestion for the next version: It would be nice to have the ability to have some sort of override that allows different menus or emulators to be manually combined.  For example, my cabinet also has the DOS versions of Dragons Lair and Space Ace, a jukebox (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/celamantia/jukebox), and another DOS game.  I would have preferred that these be on the same menu as the MAME games, leaving Stella as a separate menu.

Anyway, thanks for a great DOS front end!

Thanks!  FWIW once I got my SBLIVE (pci sound card, booo hisss) configured in DOS, the joystick port became "active" and all was well... i.e. glaunch had no problem using the sidewinder to navigate and launch games...
