Title: Any good PSX-USB adapters on the market?
Post by: CD_Vision on August 22, 2002, 02:56:46 am
Yeah, so I've got this adapter that I bought off of some guy on Ebay. One thing that's really great about it is that I can use two controllers at once.

But there is one thing that SUCKS about it. Now it only happens in Fighting games, but I just can't seem to make fireballs work. Something about quick circular motions don't work so hot. Even when I use a hacked joystick or something, same results.

Can someone recommend a converter brand that Doesn't have this problem? I may try a new mainboard soon too. I've got cheap ECS one, and I think maybe getting a better quality board might help.

The DDR freaks that use StepMania say the best PSX to USB adaptor is one made by Boom available at liksang.com

Yeah, not having any problems with the individual directions themselves. It just seems to happen when I press many directions or buttons rapidly. I might try that one on Easybuy there.

I actually remember this happening with my convertor at first, which is the same one Banacek has, but somehow it stopped happening.  Try out several different emulators like try first Mame of course, then try Kawaks, and Nebula, see if maybe that fixes the problem.  I'm pretty sure my convertor started working perfectly though, so I'm not sure what's up with this problem.

ps: I'm gonna test my convertor later tonight to see if I remember what I did.

Alright, convertor has been tested, and it checks out perfect, it's this exact one, http://www.easybuy2000.com/store/computer%20accessories/adapter.shtml
I think i remember what the problem was, the controller I have in my arcade joystick is a pelican digital psx pad, which I'm guessing is cheaper therefore isn't as complicated, but I remember trying my regular sony brand playstation dual shock controller, and I had the fireball problem.  Cd_Vision, if you have any hacked cheap ass psx pads, try them and see if they work perfectly, or if it's something to do with the driver maybe.  I can tell ya what driver I'm using if you'd like to know.

EXACTLY...i know what you are talking about..it works fine with directions but cant do fireball..some people might have 0 clue on what you are talking about..but the problem is too sad :'(

i bought a blue one before that had same problem.

i know which onces work perfect :)

www.smartjoy.com    any brand with smart joy name on it works..

also this one seem to work perfect..

THIS IS THE "BEST" one you can find..because this supports every single PSX buttons ever..
such as,

4 inputs for directions,8 inputs for action buttons,2 for start, select,2 by clicking the thumb buttons and even analog and digitals controls works together..

means you can convert the complicated pc games setup just like the playstation medal of honor engine..

i got medal of honor for pc..never played because i cant play with keyboard and mouse setup..but i got this converter...and off the beat the greatest world war game ever.

other converters do have limitations.such as you cant use analog and digital at the same time and such..but this is the best..when i bought,it used to be like $8 each..now its 13$...they realize its a great piece of work..

ANYONE THINKIN ABOUT GETTING ANY....go go go..

from    www.levelsix.com    get the one that i posted a picture of..the green one.i can also post the pic of the actual thing..looks slighly blue+green mixed color.

Trust me, learn the mouse and keyboard (its worth it in the long run).  Medal of Honor sucks on the PS2 without the accuracy of a mouse and keyboard.

Really? What I do is set only straffing keys on the keyboard, ex, W is move forward, S move back, and A straffe left D straffe right. I use the mouse for turning and shooting. Find that works very well for me.

Doing fireballs are no problem with this converter. Also, I don't know why you even need that driver disk. I've used this in Win98, win2000, and XP and all I've ever had to do is just plug it in. And if your using the dual shock the analog joysticks work great too.

I got one awhile ago from ebay and it required drivers and isn't compatible with winxp.  For my hack I am going to order some of the recommened ones above.  I need to make sure it'll work in XP...
