I would like to have a list of Vertical Games that have a working flipscreen mode in Cocktail mode.
Is there any list made or program avaiable to make this possible?
Thanx

This should be in the software forum.
You do know that screenflip has nothing to do with cocktail orientation right?
The info can be easily found by looking for the entry "cocktail" in the possible dip settings in a generated listinfo/listxml file. I don't think there are any specific tools to determine this though.

I think AdvanceMame allows you to flip ANY game even if it wasn't designed for cocktails. Just hit the / or \ key (I forget which), and it will rotate it 180 degrees.
Definitely expands the number of games you could play on a cocktail.

Again... screen flipping has NOTHING to do with cocktail mode. A 180 degree flip simply turns the game upside-down. Great for player 2, but now player 1 is screwed. cocktail games generally have to be designed to be cocktial games.

1-I never said that you could play two player COOPERATIVE games using a 180 flip. Just that using a manual flip for upright only games to switch to the second player's control side when it's their turn.
2-For a HUGE (guessing 95%+) selection of games, cocktail mode switches mean exactly 180 flip when it's player two. I can't recall off the top of my head any games (at least in the classic era) that played cooperatively in cocktail mode. They all simply flipped the screen when it was player 2's turn, which is exactly what the / key does in AM on the games that don't flip because they were upright only.

I've learend a lot from the controls.dat project. One of the things I've learned is that if a game is alternating play it already has cocktail mode or at least screenflipping in the dip settings. If it's not alternating play then flipping the screen won't do a bit of good. So yes you can manually flip the screen as you suggested, but if it's a game that would be playable using that method then there's a 99.99% chance it already has flipping or cocktail support.
Trust me, I know these things. :)

I had started a project to make a small scale MAME cocktail machine some months ago utilising a notebook and whilst looking for a suitable FE found ArcadeOS will screen flip any game you like at the press of a button (or button combo) by player 1 before and after player 2's turn (so a manual flip). I am assuming it also transfers the controls from player 1 to 2 as well as I can't see how it would work otherwise due to most vertical games using the same controls for players 1 & 2.
Other than that there aren't all that many games that support cocktail mode and I couldn't find a definitive list so just went through each of my favourite games individually and deleted those that didn't have a cocktail mode.

Sorry guys, my mistake. :-[ (It might have to do with my written english ;D)
I was looking for a program to sort out games that have a real cocktail mode.
Looking into Arkanoid the other day, I'll found out that it did not have a dipswitch setting for upright/cocktail.
I was planning on a cocktail cab, but I'll guess I have to build an upright one like the Ms Pac-man version.
As I do have a lot of time to spare, I can look into every vert. game, but It would have been nice to have a program doing the job. I can't build any cab's at the moment due to illness, and I might even have to wait until the end of february 05 before I can start. :'( :'(
Anyway, thanx for the reply :D

Bootleg arkanoids will screenflip as will the Tournament Arkanoid (or whatever the name is).
