Title: CP - help with me with my final design
Post by: PixelCloud on July 28, 2004, 05:29:43 pm
So basically its going to be like this

2 player CP

with 2 x 8 way joysticks
7 button configuration for each player
1 and 2 player buttons
credit buttons

i also want to put a spinner on it with a ps2 mouse hack
and i want to put a 4way joystick on the board (or i was thinking of getting a 4 to 8 way stick that you can swtich it on the top of the joystick)

And i want to use the Ipac2 for this

Will it work?

The ipac2 has 28 inputs.  If you get a 4way joystick and 8way joystick, they can share the same 4 inputs.

Let's see how many inputs you will use:

4 for p1 joy, including 4 way
9 for p1 buttons (7 + start + coin)
4 for p2 joy
9 for p2 buttons (7 + start + coin)
Total: 26 inputs

So you are good to go.

I think you will want buttons like pause (P) exit (Esc) and Reset game (F3) though, so you may want to get an encoder with more inputs.

BTW, I just bought 2 T-Stik Plus joysticks and am very happy with them! I highly recommend using them if you want 4 and 8 way joysticks. (The trackball works great too!)

Reset game? I been using mame for years and haven't used that function more than 3 or 4 times, if ever.

I always use shift keys for pause and escape.

I like having dedicated buttons for pause and escape, but it's a matter of personal preference. Shift keys would have been adequate.

Remember 9 buttons (7 plus start plus coin) is almost NEVER 9 buttons, it's eight. On seven button setups, it's common to have 2 buttons mapped to button 1 (neogeo and fighters)

Bringing your total down to 24, leaving you with 4 extra buttons (I mapped all four to admin buttons myself)
