i think im finally going to have to suck it up and learn how to solder so i can make a volume knob for my cab. the creative labs 2.1 wired remote is cool, but just not convenient enough, and oscars volume knob looks so damn cool...i just need to get one. SO....i have questions. i know he has step by step stuff, but thats from an amp with car speakers or stereo speakers or whatever. mine will be from a 2.1 computer speaker setup. how do i translate his tutorial? meaning....he takes the wires from a Y-adapter and cuts them up...well will i cut the wires from my remote off and wire those up to the pot thing? im kinda confused with all this, so anybody who has done his hack with a set of pc speakers let me know.

the way i will end up doing it is cutting a stereo cable in half and hooking it up with adapters.
if you are just using a set of 2.1 computer speakers, all you need is a stereo extension cable with a 1/8" male on one side and a 1/8" female on the other. you cut this in half and wire the pot to it like in the directions. then you plug the male end into the computer and plug the speakers into the female end. this way you can set the max output using your remote and not have to hack up any part of your speakers.

hmmmm....that sounds so easy. can you draw up a quick little diagram of how the wiring looks in Paint? im picturing the speaker end plugged into a female...and some kind of wire in the middle that is split off onto the volume control knob...then connecting the male end which is plugged ....ah, ive gone crosseyed.
diagram please? ;D

Hack it with Oscar's Pot example and you're set.

here's a ready made option for $30:

I bought one and it works fine. I'm sure you could buy parts and make one cheaper if you want to invest the time.

whoa sweet! have you bought from this guy or know anybody that has?

yes, I bought one. works fine, its mounted in a cab, pics are posted in the projects section. After spending hours and hours building the rest of the cab, for me this was weill worth spending the bucks for the ready made product.
