Title: Perfect 360s, I-PAC, and Opti-Pac -- Connections and 5 volt question
Post by: sofakng on July 28, 2004, 08:27:47 am
I've just got done reading the review of the the P360 on retroblast and it mentions you can power the P360 by using an I-PAC.  How can you do this?

Right now I have an opti-pac, i-pac2, and two p360s.

Whats the best way to wire them?

I don't see ANY +5v on the I-PAC, but I do see a bunch of 5v labels on the Opti-Pac.  Do I have to connect my Opti-Pac TO my I-Pac to get the +5v?  If so, how?

As you can tell, I'm a little confused...

My main question is:  Given my setup, whats the best way to get +5v to both of my p360s?

the optipac comes with a small connector (mine did anyway) that plugs into the ipac led connections, but has only two wires, ground and 5V (white is the positive, his website has the pinout to double check that).  You can splice into those wires to get your 5V for P360.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure I have the USB version (I'm at work and can't check right now).  Does that mean I didn't get that extra cable?  (I don't think I remember getting any extra cables or anything like that)

If I do have the USB version, where would I get the +5 volts from?

I guess the two options left are get the 5V from your computer, or perhaps Ultimarc can sell you just the connector (or knowing the correct pinout, you could try to make your own connector or solder directly to the pins, but they're pretty small).

I got a reply back from Andy... He said that since I have the USB version I already have +5V going into all the +5V connections on the Opti-Pac -- meaning, I don't need to connect the Opti-Pac to the I-PAC to supply the +5V.

I'll be testing this in a few days.  I plan to connect both of my P360's to the generic +5V/GND at the top of the Opti-Pac (near the PLAY1/PLAY2 buttons)
