Does anyone know of a freeware program that will allow you to change the windows screens in Windows 2000 and replace them with ones of your own? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Not sure about Win2k but you could check out BootXP (I know the title, but worth a look...)
Alternatively Twisty at MameWorld posted a way to remove the Windows loading screen altogether:
My Computer > Properties > Advanced > (Startup and Recovery) Settings. Then add /noguiboot to the end of the 'Default operating system' string...

For my Windows XP, I just go to the website StyleXP.net or .com (I forget)
Maybe someone there can point you in the right direction.

I used software called "bootskin_free" and it changed the logo to a Mame one (but only while it says Windows is loading).
However, the "Welcome" and "Windows is shutting down" screens still show up on startup/shutdown.
How can I remove or hide these screens? ???

Twisty did post a way to do this also (lost atm as the MameWorld boards went down), but I can't remember how. It was the same method as the thing I posted above, but just a different string. It removed the screens, but the problem is that it showed some other background stuff which is possibly worse...

I found this website that shows an alternate way of replacing the windows 2000 boot logo:
http://www.littlewhitedog.com/content-9.html
Using a free utility called Resource Hacker you can open and modify the file ntoskrnl.exe to replace the standard windows 2000 boot logo bitmap. The replacing bitmap has to be a BMP file with a resolution on 640 by 480 pixels and a color depth of 16 colors.
The link offers a step-by-step tutorial with pictures. I am not sure if this procedure will also work with windows XP. The website also offers a huge collection of boot logos to choose from.
