Title: screen resolution for front end?
Post by: megashock5 on July 26, 2004, 10:21:17 am
Hi, quick question about screen resulotion...

I downloaded some skins for Mamewah and wanted to create my own to use. I see them offered in the three different resolutions.

My question is this:
If the emulators don't run higher than 640x480 anyway, what would the benefit be to using a higher resolution for the front end?

I realize that setting the machine to a higher res would make windows much easier to get around in, and would probably give you a bigger list in the front end - but if I'm really only using the machine for emulation, is it better to keep it at 640x480 so the machine isn't switching back and forth when I enter/exit a game?

thanks in advance for the help!

Well I suppose it depends on the situation...

In most cases I would say the only advantage to using a high res layout would be if you want a large list, or multiple artwork types displayed.  So I think you're probably OK at 640x480, especially if you run all your emulators at 640x480 too.

Something else to note is in theory the higher the res, the worse MAMEWAH will perform, tho this will also depend on how complex a layout you're using...

Personally I use 368x240 on my arcade monitor, and (apart from testing) 640x480 on a PC monitor.

thanks, minwah!

I don't even have the PC yet, but I know it's not going to be very powerful.

Looks like 640x480 is the way to go for me.
