I purchased a new Dell 8400, Pentium

Get yourself Powerstrip. Hook the PC to the WG via standard D-Sub/VGA cord and lock it to the proper frequency.
-
Thanks for the quick reply
Is "Powerstrip" a specialized product? Where can I find it?
Andy from Ultimarc emailed me that "The ArcadeVGA card should fit into all AGP slots except the "low profile" slots which need a different backplate. We will have a new card for this soon."
-
Thats a pci express computer. It has NO agp slot.
There is no way to hook up a arcadevga to the pci express connector.
For more info.

Agp is going away people. Intel's newest chipsets don't support it.
SIS I believe has a chipset that will support both slot types.

Advance Mame will work. Find a card that it supports and that works with your system.
-
I am not sure AdvanceMAME supports any of the PCI Express cards yet so if you wanted to use the GFX card you got with the PC I think your ownly option is by using powerstip http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm I think it supports the new ATI cards.
Another option is to look for a PCI GFX card that is supported by AdvanceMAME and use that for the arcade display but that would kind of defeat the object of having such a powerful GFX card.
Hope this helps

Dell 2400's don't have AGP slots, only old PCI.
Dell 4600s, 8300's and 400SC's do. (These however are ALL discontinued as of July 1st)
Dell 4700s, 8400's and the 400sc replacement (don't know the # yet), do NOT have AGP slots, they're going to PCI Express.
The end is near for AGP at least in Dell systems.

Dell 4600s, 8300's and 400SC's do. (These however are ALL discontinued as of July 1st).
They may have discontinued manufacturing but I just bought a 400sc and it was after 7/1.
-
Correct. They've already started selling the 4700's but still have 4600's available. The 400SC is essentially the server version (no OS, no onboard video, PCI video card) of the 4600 and is to be replaced, but I don't recall what their replacement model is.
The 8300's went OOS quickly as everyone snatched them up with the Northwood chips before the 8400's arrived in may time frame with just Prescott chips.
I havn't heard if they're dropping the 2400's yet for a 2500. I would assume they'll keep them around longer since they use the lower end chips (Celeron and < 2.66 P4) on 400 or 533 (200/266 DDR) busses, not 800 like the higher models. But the new Prescott based Celerons will be out soon, and actually are a LOT better than the Northwood based celerons.
Funny... Most everyone agrees for now Clock for Clock, a Northwood P4 is better than a Prescott (lower heat/power requirements) and that the Celeron based on a Northwood was abysmal compared even to low powered AMD chips (e.g. a 2.4 Celeron slower than a Duron 1.6) but from what I've read the new Prescott based celerons will be a good deal and will give AMD a run for the money, as they've doubled the L1/L2 cache and addressed pipeline issues.
Who'd have thought, it takes the low end Celeron to make the Prescott core shine.. (www.tomshardware.com for more info)

Buying a Dell is never a good move for a number of reasons, but that's what you've got so where to from here?
(the dell didn't actually CAUSE your problem in this case, I'm just biased against them)
Your Arcade VGA card requires an "AGP" slot to work, the New Dell machines have only "PCI" and "PCI-e" slots so there is no way you will ever get the two to work together.
As far as I am aware this is not a PCI or a PCI-e version of the ArcadeVGA so on your current machine ArcadeVGA is way out.

I've given up and sent the new computer back and ordered a refirbished 8300, it ended up being $200 less and faster than the 8400.
I really want the easiest solution and just getting the right computer for the card (sounds alittle backwards, I know) I feel will make my life easier down the road.
Thanks for all of your help, it made my decision easier!!

Under the circumstances I think you made a wise decision.
And with the money you saved you can buy a massive pile of joysticks and buttons from Happ :-)
