Ok, playing with illustrator... and trying to do a gauntlet control panel...
now I have some questions.. now that I have some of the basics.
should I break a big project like this into smaller ones and try fit the parts together again later? Or just do a layer for each character?
For the fire / magic labels. Should I try to find a font that is close, or trace around them?
...and anyone with any better gauntlet art around? I'm really hoping for the front coin area first (seems like the easiest)... Then control panel.. then sideart... but I only have a high res of the control panel (the one passed around a few weeks ago.

I may have a copy of the front area coin area (high res that is) sitting around on my PC, either work or home. I'll have to look and get back to you.

Illustrator has layers and sublayers, which I think makes it unnecessary to divide it into different projects. I'd try to do the whole thing. Have a characters layer and then have a sublayer for each character if you need to.
Since the font is pretty generic and the resolution on that pic is not the greatest, I think using a similiar font would be fine.
If no one else can produce better sources, I know of several gauntlet machines back home, and I'd be willing to take a trip to the arcade to photograph the sideart. However, I don't remember what the condition of the side art is and I won't be home for another 2 weeks. If you can wait, I'd go check it out.

I would definately be interested in any sideart you can find! If you know of a machine and can take a bunch of pictures from about the same distance, I'm sure I coudl patch them together.
And I would LOVE to see the front coin art also. I have a crappy one now (200x400ish maybe). And I would LOVE to do that one first (since its the easiest).
Thanks!

Bad news, I no longer have the image. I thought I had backed it up to disk before my harddrive died but I guess not (or else I'm just not finding it right now). If I do find it I will upload it to my site. Sorry.
