Title: MacMame questions.....new to Macs
Post by: MrArcade on August 19, 2002, 09:10:32 pm
I just aquired several macs...
(2) 4400/200 desktops, and (3) 5400/180 all-in-one's

I would like to use these...esp the 5400's for mamers...bartops.

I know absoutely nothing about macs...can someone tell me if these are capable of running the classics? (Pacs, frogger, galaga, etc)

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

They should.. but older versions will do better then the latests.

They started changing focus recently and changed the optimizations towards newer games on faster computers.

.58 was MUCH better then .61 for elevator action at least.  I hear the .36 is the best on slower computers...

don't know if the mac versions are the same...  But should be since these are core changes.

Make sure you have enough memory so that you don't use virtual memory.  128 Mb RAM or more.  I wouldn't go higher then system 8.6 on the macs.  Try system 7.6.1 first.  These computers do not have onboard USB ports.  You can install a two port USB card for about $40, but you need system 8.5 or 8.6 for the cards to work.  A better choice would be an IMAC.  The G3 processor in the Imac would run the newer games much better.
