Using Mamewah and 0.36 Final of DOS Mame on a cab. MAME is prompting me each time for sound card. Do I set that value in the mame.ini file, in one of the Mameway config files, or where?
-
The soundcard promt is coming from the DOS version of MAME. Since you are running windows, use the windows commandline version of MAME instead of DOS MAME. That will resolve the sound card issue.

Will check tonight. I have it set up for both 0.36 Final (DOS) and 0.82 (Windows Command Line). I thought I was getting the error in both emulator versions, but then again, it *was* pretty late last night...
Edit: Besides, shouldn't I be able to use either "Default Options = " or "Extra Options #1 = " or "Extra Options #2 = " to set the "sound = 7" command-line parameter for the DOS version?

With DMAME, you edit mame.cfg (instead of mame.ini). Just set the soundcard value in there, it will be -1 (prompt) by default.

Thanks, Minwah.
Where would I set the sound card settings for plain ol' DOS Mame (v0.36 Final)?

??? Did you read my reply??! 'DMAME' is DOS MAME...

Sorry. Yes, I read your reply.
I have a version of DOS Mame where the executable is "mame.exe" (v0.36) and a Windows command-line version where the executable is named "dmame.exe". Hence, the confusion.
Sorry I wasn't more explicit. Will check out mame.cfg tonight.

OK sorry, I just thought you were asking the same question again!
BTW I believe 'mame -cc' does the same for DOS MAME, in order to create a default config file (be it .cfg rather than .ini).

That did the trick. Thanks.
