Title: Mame content manager
Post by: IG-88 on July 20, 2004, 05:49:54 pm
Hey all, I have a few problems I thought I'd post to see if I could get some help on. I'm running mame32 (hold the comments ;) ) & x26 with Kymaera as a F.E. and winXP as an O/S. They are:

1. I'd like the Mahjong games removed from the F.E. list.
2. Same goes for the "adult/mature" games (or any others I don't want).
3. The ability to save the high scores even after a shutdown.
4. Load directly to the F.E. bypassing windows log-on screen.
5. Doesn't Kymaera support multiple emu's? How do you switch between them from the main page?

I thought maybe that the mame content manager could handle probs 1 & 2 but I need to learn more about how that works. (where can I find more info) And as for 3 & 4 I'm open to ideas.

I'm sure these have been addressed before but I'm not having any luck with my searches.

3 - Use the highscore.dat: http://www.mameworld.net/highscore/ (http://www.mameworld.net/highscore/).  It saves the highscore for a lot of games.  Download hiscore.dat and put it in your mame directory.  Also, grab the nvrams and put those in the mame/nvram directory.

4 - You can configure windows to automatically log in.  Here's how: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Autologon.htm (http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Autologon.htm).  Then just put a shortcut to Kymaera in the Start -> All Programs -> Startup folder

Hey thanks for the links. If I am to understand it right, only certain games are able to save their highscores even in the event of a shutdown? I was under the impression that this could be accomplished with something different......and that all games could be saved.

As for the other link, I've tried both approaches, the TweakUI way and the control userpasswords2 way. Both cause my system to hang at the "windows is starting..." page  :(  Any other ideas?

The hiscores.dat is the only way to save your scores.  For the most part, I find that it has good support.

I don't know what to say about the autologin.  I don't remember what I did on my system, but it was a very simple setting that just worked.  Sorry!

Many mame games use nv ram to save data such as game settings.

Read this description for how thios relates to saving highscores:
http://www.mameworld.net/highscore/nvram.htm (http://www.mameworld.net/highscore/nvram.htm)

Without the nvrams from that site, games like metal slug 2 and puzzle bobble 2 won't save high scores.

I'm pretty sure MCM just deletes the roms for the mahjong and adult games, but they will still be listed, but if MameWah has a "Show available games only" that may be good enough.

Otherwise you will need to edit the source to remove them, or - if you switch to EmuLoader, the Parental Lock feature can automatically remove them from EL's list.

Using EL, you can also export the Parental Lock list to a txt file and then use a utility on EL's download page to "comment out" the games from MAME's driver.c file, then recompile MAME and you will have a build without these games that you can use with any frontend.

Thanks for the help so far!

By the way TalkingOctopus I did get the log-on thing to work with tweak-ui, I'm not going to say what I was doing wrong tho, too :-[ embarrassed  :-[

I like the highscore.dat project. Good support from Leezer. I shouldn't have any probs with it.

Does anyone know where MCM is located?

Also has anyone used Tim's "MAART - MAME Adult ROMs Removal Tool"? I just stumbled across it last nite. What do you all think of it?

Just read the info on the home page.  Looks like a scaled down version of MCM, only removes mature ROMS, not puzzle or adult like MCM.

Problem with all of these is they just delete the ROMS, but they still appear in the gamelist unless your frontend supports "exclude" lists, or you re-compile a custom MAME.
