Title: Contro panel help
Post by: mcdo15 on July 19, 2004, 10:58:18 am
Hi..i'm in the mist of still planing to do this right
i'm trying to get all the basic controls in.

player 1 and 2 = p360 with fighter/neogeo setup
player 3 and 4 = fighter setup (forgot to add 2 buttons)

trackball i need to be in the middle...  i figure in line with player 1 and 2

i have a 4 way joystick and spinner and buttons for trackball, spinner and 4way...

any body have any recommendations for the middle section?  i know some games require buttons for all three inputs (spinner, 4way, trackball)  so do i make extra buttons for each or i would like to use same set for all three...  The trackball is a ps2 trackball..not sure if that makes a difference.

This is a quick thing i did w/ paint at work... player 3 and 4 will be angled slightly... thanks

Assuming your using a Ipac, or another encoder that supports a Shift function, then you can save some buttons, by making the player start buttons, extra buttons such as the mouse buttons for your trackball (if you are going to use the trackball as your mouse for administrative stuff),  and you can also program mame so that you use some of the player 2 buttons for your spinner for example.

However while were on the topic of extra buttons, you may want to consider a Pause Game/Exit Game button , and a reset game button (somewhere where you wont accidently it it).  Also, a save/load state button, if you want to be able to save your games and continue them later.  Other administrative buttons you may want  is one to open the mame options (tab) and also dont forget insert coin buttons for each of the players.

hope this helps

If you're in a mist, I guess you're hazy on what to do...

For trackball games, I would use Player 1's lower row of buttons. You probably only need 2-3 buttons in the middle for the spinner and 4 way. If you want to go crazy, you could put a modified 7 button layout so you can play Defender, Stargate and Asteroids.

lol

maybe i'll just center the mouse buttons in the middle and 4way and spinner placed to the left and right with respect..
