I have done everything correctly on Oscar's site for making a degaussing coil. However it does not work. I believe it is because the magnet wire needs to be stripped so that it can make contact with the AC plug and light socket. How would I go about stripping this wire? Thanks!

I was able to strip the wire using a soldering iron. The light now lights, but the coil itself never gets warm or hot and does not degaus my TV or computer monitor. I have even tried a 15 watt bulb. Any ideas?

Run a -corded- electric drill near the monitor, I've heard that it will act much like a deguassing coil. Maybe though you have a problem that can't be fixed with a simple deguass? Try the drill trick though.

There is actually no problem at this time. But when I transport my DDR Machine, sometimes on site the corner gets purple, so I am building one to use. I have heard about the drill thing but would like to do it the right way.

I am havin some gaussing probs but I never heard of the drill solution I'm gonna try it right now!

This will work, as it uses the same principle. You're just evening out the magnetic flow acrosss the screen.

Is there a reason you can't just use a real maginet?
I never figured out why an electrical maginet works better? I thought it was the size and being rounded helped... but then why would an electic drill do it (because it would seem like that would produce something similar to a natural maginet)

You can. I've degaussed with a hard drive magnet.
You have to make sure you don't turn it at all when you're making your motions around the screen.
