Title: need monitor help please
Post by: mr.stirfry on July 18, 2004, 04:44:59 pm
i just recently bought an old 13" wells gardner monitor for my arkanoid cabinet. the monitor worked for a bit, then blacked out (like it lost power). i hit the side of the cabinet and it came back to life. it worked for a couple hours after that without problems til i turned it off. the next day, it was the same story all over again...i''d have to hit the cabinet to get the monitor to light up, only now it only stays on for about 10 seconds before cutting out again, and it's much less responsive to the hitting. i'm new to this kind of thing, any suggestions?

Bad solder joints for sure, but since you have to take the monitor board out to resolder it you should install a capkit (a.k.a. "get well" kit).

would resoldering the joints be something easy that any jackass with a soldering tool could do? i don't even know what a solder joint is anyway, so i guess that rules out installing a capkit since  i read that you need to discharge the monitor before doing that, and i'm pretty sure i'd kill myself if i tried that. basically, i'm quite clueless in this area. if this isn't something i can fix myself does anyone know a good technician in NYC that i could take this to?
