Title: Newbie ? about controlls
Post by: bigdog10 on July 17, 2004, 05:32:34 pm
I just got a Neo Geo cabinet that is in pretty bad shape,But iam gonna rebuild it.  Can I use the 2 joystick and buttons on the cabinet and wire it for USB or gameport?  There are many wires to deal with, or should i just buy one of those arcade X boards.  I like the feel of the neo stick though

Yes you can and should use your current controls.  You wire them to a keyboard encoder like the ipac (http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html)).

There are lots of wires, but the wiring is actually pretty simple.  Read this (http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade_wiring.shtml (http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade_wiring.shtml)) to get a good idea of what's involved.

To use a trackball and/or spinner, you will need an OptiPac from Ultimarc.com.  For the controls, assuming you are keeping a 2 player control setup, you need an Ipac2.

Hope that helps.
