Title: Hows this for a marquee light?
Post by: Demon-Seed on July 16, 2004, 11:34:50 am
Hello
I found this beauty and wondered what you thought
It connects to your hard drive power plug, and is generally used to make your pc look cool, you know one of those neon lights inside the cab. I thought it would be good to wire as a marquee light as it connects directly to the 12v power supply like a harddrive and could be turned on or off automatically when pc boots.
It does have a on / off switch, and i have been told has a 10000 hrs light life. Would this work?

It'd be convenient, but I'd be skeptical about it being bright enough.
I found an inexpensive flourescent light at Wal Mart. Although you have to plug it into a conventional power plug, it has the neat feature of having a pass-through cable that lets you add more lights to it.

Under $10. I set it back about 7" from my marquee, and it looks vibrant.

I have one of those in my computer cab and it's not very bright in the dark. I have ine whole side of my cab clear and from 10 feet away is pretty dim. If you out it behind something it would be too dim.

The one I mentioned is 20" and claims "85 watt output on 17 watt power". :P

I took the light cover off of it. Has a neat swivel mount the body snaps into  that made installing it in a cabinet very easy.

There is a purchase link there from Amazon for $13, I think mine was 10 at Wal Mart.
