Title: PC Golden Tee Golf - Help!!
Post by: ratabase1 on July 15, 2004, 10:44:03 pm
???Has anybody else had any problems getting Golden Tee Golf for the PC to run on their PC?  I installed the PC version of Golden Tee Golf on my PC but I'm having a little problem getting it to play.  I can play the videos, etc., no problem, but when I go to play the game, my screen goes black for a second and then dumps me back to my desktop.  I am running Windows 2000 on a 1 ghz computer with over 512 mg memory.  I have active x and directx also loaded.  Any ideas?

Do a search.  I know I downloaded the demo and couldn't get it to run Windows XP.  I think some people have gotten it to work on XP, but I think it was using a really old version of directX (I know you're using 2000, but technically it's the same thing.)

okay, your problem is that golden tee DOESN'T work at all on windows 2000.  its not your machine, or the way you installed it, win2k is the only OS it doesnt work on...besides win95 and below of of course.  but 98, 98se, winME, and XP will all run golden tee for the pc.  i ran it fine on 98, 98se, and XP...didnt run it on ME, because well...if you have ME you need to shoot yourself.   ;D

Okay thanks.  That would explain my problem if it doesn't work with 2000.  I wonder why that is?

It's a shame the search function has become so defective here (this is the only thread that I can get to appear).  I have XP and can not get it to run (And I know I'm not alone).  I know some people have gotten it running on XP and I think in one thread someone mentioned anything over a certain directx (For some reason version 6 is sticking in my head) version and it's a crapshoot in XP.  I know I wish I could get it running, but there's no way I'm running that.  And I thought Win 95 was the preferred OS?  If you go to their website, they list 95/98 as the requirements, so I'm guessing that's true.

well dude, heres exactly what i did...

i got golden tee for the pc and installed it on my win2k machine that i use just regularly (not for mame) to see if it would work.  well obviously it didnt, but it was still installed.  so i went to www.gamecopyworld.com and got the no-cd crack for it because i knew i didnt want to have to put the cd in to play it.  after i did that,  i installed windows xp on my mame cab and downloaded all the updates.  then i downloaded aol IM and on the mame cab and then i sent the golden tee folder from this pc to my mame cab pc via IM.  then i just placed the folder in my emulation folder along with my other emu's and mame and all that.  then i just double clicked on the golden tee icon (that is now a crack) and it worked fine.  no flaws, no nothing.  so i dont know what you did, but to me it works fine.  good luck.

Knew this was a common problem, so I did a search on Google.  Here's an answer that pretty much sums it up:

"Well one thing is for sure... your problem is Directx 9... gtg will crash running directx 9... I assumed you new that when I left the previous answer... my bad. Now I know many systems that dont run directx 9 and it still crashes to the desktop, but in this case I would say that is your problem... you can find a directx 9 uninstaller by going to my site www.bigboz.cjb.net and then clicking on SuitII and the Courses

that does not mean it will resolve the problem though if you have one of those systems that just crashes with gtg and xp... I am a computer tech and have 5 systems running xp and 3 systems crash when playing gtg... can't seem to narrow down the issue any further... thats why I suggested you dual boot the system, gtg run better in 98 anyway.

let me know what you decide and how it goes.

BigBoz"

It's not much of an answer, but it's as good as anyone's ever been able to figure out.
