I bought Unreal Tournament 2004 the DVD version from Best Buy yesterday. When I tried to install it, it asked for the 20 digit key code on the back of the manual. There was no code on the back of the manual. The game came in a plastic case, with two DVDs, and a manual. I was surprised there were no adverts or registration card. I don't want the key code, I own the game, I just want to know where this key code is located? I'd like to make sure I don't have it in the packaging before I take it back to store, and the 16 year old behind the counter needs to point it out to me.
Thanks
BTW I'll be installing it tonight around 7:30pm so I should be playing by 8 Central time, if any of you are going to be playing, let me know which server you are on, and what add ons or patches I need.
By game name will be Village_Idiot.

I remember that I couldn't find the code either and it certainly wasn't in the manual. I think it was printed behind the CD in the CD case, but I had the CD version not the DVD.

I used to do work for activision and it was not unheard of to have a game ship without the cd key. Just take it back or call UT tech support and ask. They should trade it out np

I returned it and got a new one off the shelf then brought it to the service counter. The guy behind the counter opened it and no key code in that one either. He made some calls, the tech guy tried installing it,

Hmm, weird. I wonder if it was in small print somwhere. My starcraft CD was like that. It was tought ot find the number.

The moral of this story, Unreal Tournament 2004 - DVD, bad.
That is really too bad. I would like to see more PC games use DVDs and this is one of the few titles to be released on DVD. I bought the CD version because it was cheaper.

The CD key for my DVD was on a small sticker inside the DVD case.
Awesome game, but not for my cabinet :)

Man I wouldn't have returned it. You do know that thanks to the power of the internet you can "aquire" virtually any key to any piece of software out there. Heck I don't even keep my windows activation keys anymore I just go to my favorite warez site prior to an install.

You need the valid cdkey to play online, and since UT2004 is primarily an online game, it is useless without one. Although I totally agree with you about the windows activation keys. Windows activation is annoying. I am not sure if you are going to be able to get service pack 2 with invalid keys though. However, I am sure that a workaround sp2 will be released by someone.

Hate to say it...
many people steal the keys from games they pirate... So they can play online.
Its easier to walk out of a bestbuy with a sticker then it is a DVD.
So they burn it from the net, install it, load the cd-crack... and play online for free.
And crack serial numbers don't work on any online game.... not...that...I know....
ut2004 is fun for about 2 seconds without the online side... And guessing from that point on.
-
bummer...mine had the CD key, 2 DVDs, and the stickers. ???

I'm not talking about cracks people, I am talking about genuine serials. I can't post here due to legality, but trust me, you can find real serials (not cracks) to any cd or dvd based software on the net. The only time you need cracks is when you get the disc image as well (disc has copy protection).
How I know that I don't know as I'm a good boy and shouldn't know about such things. ;D

Yes I understood that. I guess I should have been more clear about what I meant by invalid.
I realize that you will be able to install the game using any generated serials. However, the generated serials will be rejected by servers as invalid (unless you are extremely lucky). In UT2004's case, only serials that have been shipped with a retail box are activiated and can be used online.
