Title: PC games on a cabinet...
Post by: johnnysmitch on July 14, 2004, 11:19:40 am
I haven't found a topic quite like this yet, so I thought I'd start one - anyone know any PC games that are really good to play with an arcade control panel?  I've heard that Golden Tee PC is really good, as is Tiger Woods 2004 (both of which I plan on getting) - what are some others?

May I humbly suggest two (ok, 4-ish):

1) Beavis and Butthead Bunghole in One Minigolf: Great party game.

2) If you are a fan of Gauntlet, Get Medieval is a *must* have on your mame cab - up to 4 players - harder, more involved Gauntlet essentially, but with humorous voice-overs for the main characters.

I imagine many of the NASCAR racing series of pc-games probably would do well on a MAME box with a USB driving controller....

Heard good things about Star Monkey as well (top-down shooter)...

I'd recommend Virtua Tennis and Guilty Gear X.

I'm guessing most anything other than 1st person shooters and RPG-type games would work pretty well.

I haven't found a replacement for a mouse and keyboard in FPS games.
Trackballs just don't work as accurately for me as a mouse.
You also need too many buttons to do stuff; and arcade buttons are just too big to group well.

Has anyone tried that HyperBowl game?  Looks like it would be pretty sweet on an arcade panel - they actually sell an arcade version (only $19k!); they stole my idea of using a bowling ball for a trackball, lol

Hyperbowl is a really good port of the actual arcade game. It does have some replay value and it controls fine with the trackball.

Hamsterball is a bit better for replay value (another good game for the track ball).

I haven't found a replacement for a mouse and keyboard in FPS games.

I think this depends upon the individual. I never used the mouse in FPS games to begin with, rather I relied on only keyboard input. That just seems more natural to me.

Therefore, I think I could substitute buttons and joys very easily. I plan on putting Doom, Quake and Half-Life in my cab.
