I'm debating whether to bother illuminating my buttons. I was thinking, if you're playing and it's mostly black around the monitor and control panel area, wouldn't illuminated buttons be distracting?

I love mine.
I've got my P1/Pause/P2 illuminated right in front of the monitor bezel, and I have light up modules of varying button configurations.
I haven't found either of them distracting because I'm focused on the monitor.

I have 4 lighted credit buttons and other lighting around the cabinet and I have no problem playing. Actually I see zero reflection off of the monitor because of the angle.

I always played with illuminated buttons in the real-arcades (15 years ago).
The buttons where also bigger than american/japanese buttons...
I still need to be used to this small/non-illuminated pushbuttons that people use now :)

No, I LOVE my Atari LED buttons.

If you're distracted by lights, then maybe video games are not for you. ;D

Guys I'm not talking about tiny LEDs for player start buttons, I'm talking about illuminating all the action buttons next to the joysticks (and a trackball).

As mentioned earlier, I've got BOTH, and I don't find them distracting at all.

I don't have illuminating play buttons, mostly because I try to use original panels and not too many games had them. When I do use them on others' cabs I have no problems as I'm not looking at them when I play.
