Title: color scheme
Post by: Nefesis on July 09, 2004, 08:35:41 pm
i'm not sure if this should be in this forum or the artwork forum. does anyone have a suggestion for what color buttons and joysticks i should have on a black cp? i would like to have:
- 2 happ super joysticks
- 7 buttons per player
- and 1-player and 2-player start button from happ (white)
- 1 ultimarc t-stick
- 1 ultimarc trackball
- 2 mouse buttons
- 1 pause button
- 1 exit button
- pinball flipper buttons
i thought about having most of the things red, but it seemed like it would be too much red. does anyone klnow if the happ blue pushbuttons go well on a black backround and next to red pushbuttons? also, does anyone know of a website where the person did a nice job on the cp color? i'll probably be searching the projects here for the rest of the night anyway...

How about all black controls (on a black CP) ?

That would make the CP totally invisible unless you are standing right over it, totally not distracting.

It would look so 'clean' on an all black cab, I may do that on my next one ...

and you could call it something cool/tacky like "NinjaCade"

I wonder if anyone has done it before ?

Dig it?

If I wanted a really clean look, I've been a big fan of black joysticks and purple buttons.

Otherwise, red joysticks and red buttons for P1 and Blue joysticks and blue buttons for Player 2 kinda gives a nice Ikaki/Twin Cobra feel.

If you don't want it as segmented, maybe red joystick/blue buttons for P1, Blue joystick red buttons for P2, but that might not look so good.

If you want help visualizing it, try the designers at http://www.slikstik.com/ (near the bottom of the page).

I picked the 'red for P1 and blue for P2' colourscheme and I was not too happy with it after a while. Reason: not all 2 player games have red for P1 and blue for P2. This caused more distraction during play and so I switched to a neutral colour scheme that is the same for P1 and P2.

I took this route: first I selected what colours I would like my cab (I picked blue and yellow) and selected the CP colors from there. So if you know what kind of artwork you want on the cab, pick your CP colourscheme to match the artwork.

Sounds like a similar-ish control panel to the one will be constructing...

2 x T-Stick Plus sticks(BLUE)
7 pushbuttons in Neo-Geo config. per player (mixed BLUE and WHITE for each player)
Player 1 and 2 start buttons (WHITE)
Player 1 and 2 coin insert (BLUE)
Ultimarc Trackball (WHITE)
Left & right mouse buttons (BLUE)
Pause and Exit buttons (BLACK)
Pinball flipper buttons (BLUE)
Oscar Vortex spinner (Anodised Black spinner knob)

My cabinet will have (hopefully) a Piano Black Gloss finish. Classic MAME nebula marquee art, with matching  sidepanels. Translucent grey smoked plexiglass, covering a black plastic bezel.

The painting and varnishing should be completed by next weekend...hopefully the orders from Ultimarc, Happ, MameMarquees and Oscar should be here late next week too. I will post pictures once it is completed...

allright i plan to have this on my cpo. the circle is the happ super joystick and since the only availiable color is black, i put the arrows to make it show up more.  i might do the black on black, but would probably spruce it up some with some red or purple pushbuttons. thanks for all the great suggestions!
