Title: Am I being unfair?
Post by: crashwg on July 09, 2004, 04:30:26 pm
I just won a pair of NES controlers on ebay for 3.25 right...

I then got the invoice for 13.25!  I personally thing $10 for shipping is outrageos.  USPS's calculator gave me a total of 3.85 for a 4x5x6" package from there to here, so I offered the seller $5 for shipping.

Do you think that's fair?  Certainly you don't thing $10 is fair do you?

Did the seller have a shipping cost posted?

The seller could have started the bid low, because he knew the shipping would make up for it.

How bout an auction link?
Was the shipping price available before you bid?
Some sellers do charge for shipping.  You don't have to pay final value fees to ebay for shipping.  Does seem high.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8116460661&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8116460661&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT)

It says "I am not sure of shipping cost at this time but I will provide by the end of the action the buyer will pay the shipping"

As long as they're not planning to send it UPS overnight, I don't see why it would cost $10

And while you're already looking at the auction... does the left controler look a little funny?  Particularly the bottom, it looks kinda yellow to me.  Not that it realy matters now, since I've already won em.

Dude, you have a -1 rating.

If you don't want to pay 13.25, stiff him and start a new profile.

Even if you decide to buy them, start a new profile.

You fell into his trap, read the fine print next time. ;)

"Shipping and handling:
Check item description and payment instructions or contact seller for details.

Seller's payment instructions & return policy:
I will exept paypall only your payment must be recived within 2 days of the end of auction. I am not sure of shipping cost at this time but I will provide by the end of the action the buyer will pay the shipping"

I think he wanted you to believe you would only be paying for actual shipping.  If you want them for that price get them, otherwise I wouldn't feel too bad about not paying, however, you should always find out how much shipping will be prior to bidding.  If they won't tell you, don't bid.

Well, he didn't, afterall, fulfill his promise.  He said shipping would be provided BY the end of the auction, not AFTER the action ended.

lame

Never deal with anyone that has less than 99% good feedback.

Neutral feedback does not give *or* take away.  It's just as the name says, neutral.  Negatives, OTOH, do.  And some people are just too free with the negatives, and eBay doesn't have a good system of dealing with the crap FB.

Ya know what I can't stand is people who charge really outrageous shipping charges and list the item real cheap.  For instance I saw a pair of speakers before listed for $0.99 with the shipping listed at $29.99!  That is so irritating!!!

As I said in my first post, I offered $5 for shipping... and I still have not recieved any response.  So I am assuming that they are declining my offer and I will pay more attention next time.

Oh well.

IIRC, they charge the outrageous shipping because ebay doesn't collect a fee on that, just on the purchase price.  I might be wrong and I'm sure several people will correct me if I am.
