Title: spinner from forgotten world
Post by: danybeatboy on July 07, 2004, 11:24:20 pm
Hi,
I just bought a arcade cabinet ( forgotten World)
Capcom 1988, and it have 2 spinner on it.
I want to known if it's possible to use one of them (spinner)
for my new control panel for Mame (Mamewah) ?
If yes, I plan to buy the OptiPac from Ultimarc, is it hard to
connect this kind of spinner on it?

Is this a working cab?  Not much of a classic to many folks but it is to me (I think less than 1500 were made)

Oh well...  short answer is yes, it shouldn't be that much of a problem to interface these with an iPac, you could probably also have no big problems getting the push down button push part to work as well.

Long answer is "shouldn't be that much of a problem" is very much a YMMV statement.  Others here probably can chime in more authoratatively than I on this particular case.

Anywhere near Indiana?  I'd take the cab and other bits off your hands if you don't want some chunks of it - unless, of course, this cab *is* going to be your new MAME machine, in which case, good luck and have fun!

Hi,

Yes, it's 100% working, just fix one problem with the player one joystick. (ah, and the 2 lights on the coin door)
I'm from Montreal, and i got it on Ebay from Amusement911, the warehouse is less than 10 minutes from my house!!!

It,s the cab that i plan to use for my mame cab. I will try to fix the control panel problem, cause it's not very big, so, if i want to add trackball, and more buttons, i think i should modify the cab around the CP. Anyway, i'm just asking if somebody already use that kind of spinner on a mame cab?

Can you show us a pic? I bet that before being "Forgotten Worlds" that cab may have been a "classic".

I saw that auction - was tempted to bid but didn't want to spend $300 bucks on it - at minimum ($100 to crate and at least $100 to ship... :( )

For pics, you can still see them at:

One day I'll get a Forgotten Worlds (or at least the two spinners and put them on my MAME machine so I can play this game right)

I would be very surprised to find out that it was not originally a Karate Champ cab.  The spinners are in the "attack" joystick holes.  The cabinet is certainly a Data East c.1984.

I always wondered if that layout (move w/ joystick, and fire by pushing the spinner) wouldn't be a reasonable option for a Tron setup.  Instead of taking a real Tron joystick out of the restoration arena, or hacking together some monstrosity of a trigger stick, just get one of OSCAR's push/pull spinners (or a Forgotten World one) and fire with the push motion.

Not authentic, but easier to implement... maybe.

This is the reason why i want a try.  (Tron) But, it seems that i will not put a trackball, cause if i dont cut the cab to fit a bigger CP, i dont have enough space for it.... any suggestions?
