Title: Ball top for perfect360?
Post by: RobertBasil on July 06, 2004, 09:17:00 pm
I have 2 Perfect360 joysticks and would love to be able to use them in the PacMan and Ms PacMan mame cabs I am building, but I want to try and duplicate the original cabs as much as possible (except for the CP buttons)

Does anyone know how to use a "ball top" on a perfect360 joystick? And if so, where can I order the ball top and stick from?

Thanks!

I purchased a Wico ball top for about $15 from a BYOAC user.  It fits the P360 pretty well.  You may have to shave down the actuator slightly or compress the springs.

If that's the case, then my red ball tops with firebuttons should be able to fit too with a little "shaving" ;-)

(**I'm still pricing out a cheap machinist! **)

Thanks for the email, I just sent an email off to him about buying 2 of em. :)

What end of the actuator would you shave off for 8 way operation (narrow or wide)?  I'm guessing the optics read the wide area for 8 way but want to make sure.

SlikStik makes ball-tops for most of the popular joysticks, including the Perfect 360.

The Wico balltops are an exact fit. Ponyboy is selling them for $8.00.

You want to disregard my prior post about shaving.  After some experimentation, I've found that the 360's can exhibit unreliable performance if you shave the actuators.  The unwanted behaviour only occurs in 4-way mode, but if you ever want to switch to 4-way you are out of luck.  Since the Wico balltop shaft is only slightly to short, all you have to do is press the actuator in (compressing the spring slightly) before attaching the E ring.  Here's an example of my conversion. take a look at my site for 360 mods...You can attach a leaf to your 360 for Q-bert Action or 4-way action leaf style for Pacman games.

I see the wico balltops come in either 4.0" or 3.5" length. What size is best for the 360's mounted on a wood panel?

4" IMHO.  I like a taller stick though.

I have the 4" Wico balltops on mine and they are an EXACT fit. Never tried 4-way mode though, so I couldn't comment on that.
