with reference to the following: http://www.gunpowder.freeserve.co.uk/wheels/wiring.htm (http://www.gunpowder.freeserve.co.uk/wheels/wiring.htm)
I have 2 sets of pedals so I'll be using J1Y and J2Y for the side 1 and 2 respectively. Will this work?
Is there a better way to get 2 sets of pedals iinto mame? Could I hack a dual strike and re-map the one axis? thoughts anyone?

Should work, especially if you don't plan to unplug and re-plug in the pedals (gameport loses calibration).
If you are running Win98, be sure to wire a momentary button to the gameport so you can calibrate the pedals.

There's DaveB's AKI - http://dave.bit2000.com/

But that only gives you one set of pedals (I think), or you could hack a gamepad joystick for one set and a dual strike for the second, or two dual strikes . . .

The AKI actually has 5 axis inputs, so it will run two sets of pedals, or one set of pedals with an x-y-z yoke.

Ack i had forgot allabout that--thanks!

Not sure if it interests you, but I wired up some pedals as from the BYO wheel/pedals site...
I found that even in XP, I was losing calibration, and the cursor in the Control Panel test screen was pretty jittery...
I tried a Gameport > USB converter that I had lying around, and it fixes it a treat! The cursor doesn't jitter around, and the calibration stays spot on. Oh and incidentally, I don't ever disconnect the pedals as they are a permanent fixture in my cab.
I also have 2 AKI's for other controls, and I must say they are a lot easier and work a treat also :)

It's funny that you mention the gameport to USB converter since i bought one attached to a joystick at a yard sale for 2$--can't beat that--looks like it will permanently reside in the cab--thanks for the tip minwah!
