Before actually trying Visual Pinball I thought that there is no way real pinball tables could be emulated and actually be fun. Boy was I wrong! Visual Pinball ROCKS! I didn't play pinball in the arcades all that much as a kid, but I'm hooked up visual pinball :)
So, what are some of the better tables for it? After looking through the hundreds of tables available, some of the older ones I don't care for but some of the newer ones are great. Because I don't know of many good tables, I only have one favorite right now:
T2 - Judgement Day
I'm not very good at pinball either... anybody have any tips for that?
-
Hmm, I was gonna suggest T2, but I guess that's no use ;) I have played lots of others, but T2 is the only one I keep playing.
-
Theatre of Magic and Dr. Who are my two favorites.

My brothers and I have a contest going on Addams Family. 1 brother got over 1 billion. We have also been playing T2 but not for a while. Both very fun. I am actually trying to make one myself. It will suck but it will be modeled after the old EM machines. So no ramps or anything.

Hey I was just looking at these yesterday, and is it correct that there are 2 seperate virtual pinball programs? Cuz I saw a screenshot of "Funhouse" for Visual Pinball and then I saw a screenshot of "FunHouse" for the Pin Mame, or whatever it's called and they were not the same at all.
So are the two programs related or not? Do they both run only in Windows?

They are related, you need both to fully emulate a pinball table.
from the eayemu.com site :
Visual Pinball allows you to design realistic pinball tables including original graphics and realistic physics. It does it by using Visual Basic scripts and this is where Pinmame comes in.
What the clever authors of Pinmame did was to hook it into the scripts from Visual Pinball creating Visual Pinmame.

This site will tell you how to get everything up and running

Almost forgot - I love Star Trek - Next Generation ;D
-
Visual Pinball is the pinball simulator program, and the tables both would have been for Visual Pinball, but the were probably different versions. Visual PinMAME integrates with Visual Pinball and allows the use of the actual pinball ROMS and video display.
Visual Pinball and Visual PinMAME are both windows only, I believe.

Usually the good real life pinballs are good to play.
Try "Twilight Zone", and I also really like "Centaur"

Attack From Mars, and Tales of the Arabian Nights are two I would reccomend.
As for tips, ball control is everything. learn how to stop the ball on the flipper for better aim. And learn the rules of the table, there is almost always a system to the newer tables that will maximize your score.
If you see a real table in good shape - play it! Playing a real table will help immensely in beating them on vpinmame.

Who Dunnit? is an awesome one as well, you have to solve murder mysteries. shoot the ball this way to answer the phone, shoot it this way to take a taxi, pretty sweet, check it out.
